    You need a solid state voltage regulator for 14 volts dc that can handle a minimum load of about 10 amps. A dropping resistor theoretically only works properly if the current draw is constant. The radio draws very little current in receive, on transmit several amps.

    I don't think it would have made any difference in this situation since the Cub was NORDO. ADS-B only helps eliminate midairs if the pilot(s) have ADS-B In and Out and have audible alerts in the event of traffic conflicts. I added Bluetooth to my audio panel to do just that. It really helps...

    A 70cm rig only needs a 6.8" quarter wave vertical antenna. I would use a handheld on that band. Now..I prefer doing cw with a 20 meter rig when flying :-)

    Sometimes we LOOK, but we don't SEE. It is really easy to be flying a tight pattern and focus your attention on the runway and miss another plane entering the pattern. Accidents like this are very sad.
