Making the tough go/no go decisions...

I hope Osh happens and I hope we can be there. Never been and it looks like a lot of fun!

Making the tough go/no go decisions...

I never would have thought of that. I always love when someone’s different perspective surprises me.

Making the tough go/no go decisions...

I was really amused by the conversation of the cirrus pilot and ATC when I heard it listening to liveAtC as I was driving. I didn’t say anything pejorative about him. Never said he was stupid or impugned his judgment. I wondered out loud what was going on in his cockpit that made him change his...

Making the tough go/no go decisions...

Apparently it wasn’t an easy no go decision for the cirrus pilot! Ha. The temptation is strong to complete the mission, not disappoint friends, and get there. That’s sort of the point...and also a look at what the actual conditions are like based on that forecast if you would try to fly, as...

Making the tough go/no go decisions...

Sometimes making the go/no go decision can be difficult, as the temptation to complete the mission is always really strong. I learned a lot on this one, including what ATC sounds like when they are diappointed in a Cirrus pilot....

I've never been vectored so much by ATC...

I had the chance to fly my plane from L.A. to the San Francisco Bay Area on an instrument plan for work and had a really interesting flight in IMC avoiding icing and being vectored all around on the approach. Hope you enjoy this video!

Best Glass Panel Ever? My In Depth Review of Dynon SkyView HDX for Certified

Glad you found the video useful. From my understanding, the HDX works equally well with a Garmin Navigator. The HDX does not control the Avidyne unit at all and the information is just one way from the IFD unit to the HDX. I am fairly certain the Garmin navigators output the same information...

Why must ForeFlight be Such a Tease?

I never understood what is so special about the Jepp charts. Maybe that's because I haven't really used them very much? Lots of people use the FAA charts to fly approaches successfully. I don't understand the benefit vs cost of the Jepp charts. Can someone explain it to me? I can fly all...

Strongest Crosswind I ever landed in...(VIDEO)

I will tell my wife all this if she ever starts to give me grief about barfing once or twice. Haha! Oh man you guys really made my day. Thank you so much. It means a lot to me that you recognize the energy I put in and my attempt at a responsible approach to putting this kind of content out...

Strongest Crosswind I ever landed in...(VIDEO)

I have noticed that as well in the 6 and previous PA28 I owned. Maybe less so in the Cessna because of the high wing but it is a really good point and observation. Once in ground effect things always seem to just settle out and stabilize. Thanks!! I started making these videos to share...

Strongest Crosswind I ever landed in...(VIDEO)

I felt bad for her but she would rather puke and go to Sedona than not. If she were objecting she would speak up- believe me on that one. Haha. I asked her if I should include that part in the video and she thought it was funny and said put it in. If I had regular passengers I would have said...

Strongest Crosswind I ever landed in...(VIDEO)

This was one of the most challenging landings I have had, and one of the funnest trips we've taken (after my wife recovered from the crazy ride). Hope you enjoy this video of our adventure!

    Useful Rules of Thumb

I should have specified that once the crosswind is 60 or above the crosswind component is the full wind strength. Differences greater than 60 degrees don't work and the rule assumes you have picked the runway for headwind and that it's not a tailwind at all. Yeah it takes a long time but I...

Those are both good and could be equally applied in the cockpit. LOL
