What Is "Special Military Activity" In SoCal???

I know the are of which you speak. When I first started flying my own plane in the area, I asked ATC on the radio about it and they had no idea what I was talking about...even though I was going right through it in their sector. After that I stopped worrying about it. Haha

Cool places to fly to within 2 hours of LAX

I have not published one yet about Catalina. Definitely will be making one about a trip there at some point. Let me know if you want any pointers on Catalina...airport, landing, things to do, etc. It's worth flying to for sure.

Cool places to fly to within 2 hours of LAX

You could land on El Mirage dry lake bed if you are feeling adventurous. very close to L.A. My favorites are Big Bear, Catalina, Camarillo, Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez (Solvang). I have videos on a few of these places on my youtube channel. let me know if you want more details on any o them.

Southwest cancelled my flight, so I flew myself to work

The off route altitudes are much higher over the mountains so the airways kept me as low as possible to stay out of freezing temps.

Southwest cancelled my flight, so I flew myself to work

I have heard a hard a hard and fast rule for IFR flight is if the freezing level is at or below the MEA for the route, it is a no-go. This situation led me to see some grey area in that rule.... Curious as to other's thoughts about this. Is it an automatic no-go for you if the forecast...

Alec Baldwin shoots and kills cinematographer.

Typically, on a movie production and especially one where workers are working under the IATSE basic agreement, the crew is hired as employees of the production company and are covered by a workers comp policy. The production also carries production insurance which covers liability, equipment...

Alec Baldwin shoots and kills cinematographer.

I wasn't working on that production. I have worked on sets with firearms many times. There are standardized procedures that should have been in place that guarantee this won't happen. It involves everyone who touches the weapon to open and inspect visually and verbally confirm. The last step...

We did the same. The only time I have ever lied to my kids is when I told them there are only 3 Indiana Jones movies. LOL

Fun trip to Astoria - Goonies Filming Locations!

I did find the history of Astoria very interesting. The information about the Columbia river boat pilots was interesting- apparently it is very challenging to go up the river to Portland so they have special crews that get helicoptered onto the boats to drive them up the river.

    Camera stuff

I believe the GoPros can be loaded with software that enables GoPro Labs and that has some additional features- there is one that will start recording on movement I think. Also the GoPro 10 may be able to be activated with multiple cameras in a single app button push, and it also has scheduled...

    Camera stuff

Hello! As some of you know I am a cinematographer for a living and have an aviation youtube channel. Ive put lots of work and research into figuring out how to shoot the best images in and on the plane. GoPros DO SUCK! They are unreliable, overheat, battery for ****, and never connect...

VIDEO: SoCal flying to Santa Ynez with a close call, bike riding to Solvang

The above posts are correct - left out of he airport onto the main road and then pick up the bike path by the high school. It's easy to see. Goes almost all the way to town from there. Road is busy but the shoulder is wide enough to be safe in my opinion.
