    LED strobe for Cessna 182Q

Nothing like spending a pile of money on wingtips and lights. Match drilling everything, yanking the old power supplies & wiring. Stringing all new wires with a sync wire and changing the breakers to match, painting wingtips, updating the W&B and Equipment List and finally the log entry. If...

Owner produced parts - composite or 3D printing - contacts?

If I was doing it for myself, I'd just layup glass right on that part after waxing it with mold release or a quick spray of PVA or both Another favorite, is modeling clay right on the airplane and glass over it.

    Blind rivets

Those Cherry rivets attached all the elevator and horizontal stabilizer tips onto the 1968 Cessna 182 from the factory. Those Cherry part numbers are also spec'ed in a Cessna SB for adding MS470AD-4 rivets to the elevator balance weight skin at the forward spar, requiring R&R of the tip fairing...

    Oil Analysis - Lycoming O-320-E2D - Opinions?

Engines are a crapshoot. My O-320E2D with 2002 hours total time since new assembled in 1968 never made metal, just tired cylinders on it so we are overhauling it. Cam and lifters were in fair condition but eventually would have started eating each other but still 55 years old! Just got my...

Unbelievable Offduty Delta Mechanic notices GA Maintenance Issue from the Ground

Is it just me or is someone else also impressed you actually remembered to turn your lights on? I swear 10% of people on the road and in the air have no clue

    Dual Garmin G5s IFR panel?

The CGR-30P screenshot you picked is not showing the primary page. The CGR should do it all you just gotta order the right options. The one I have installed was on a carbureted engine, constant speed prop, with no fuel pump or turbocharger, nor did we did integrate the fuel quantity system into it.

    Old 1970s Ford "Cessna" Alternators?

IDK the fine detailed differences but that is what I have except mine is a 12V one and a little older

how long to complete an annual inspection for C182

I love the conformity inspection arguments and all that. Many STCs have big gaps in the installation data and the installer(s) pull a solution out their ass. That solution may just be "it'll work", "43.13 says", or separate drawing that actually has an FAA approval, or any combination of the...

    Lycoming crankshaft idler gear backlash

Have you ever seen the Lycoming Direct Drive Overhaul Manual before? Plenty of various places have various revisions of it posted online in weird places. Sure Lycoming doesn't have it published on their website but go to the pubs vender and BUY it, its not difficult. While you're at it download...

    Old 1970s Ford "Cessna" Alternators?

Whom have you been using? Kicking the idea around of buying a brand new one outright and a few extra sets of brushes and bearings to add to my toolbox stash. A different path appears to be Planepower AL12-F60 kit which is more money and don't find any internal parts for sale for them. Not...

    Old 1970s Ford "Cessna" Alternators?

What is everyone doing with these? Just dumping them for the latest flavor of Hartzell/Planepower ones? Can you buy legit parts for these anywhere?

    Engine shop recommendations (teardown/IRAN)

IDK but.. in my case O320E2D (4 banger lycoming with fixed pitch prop) in a Cessna 177 Engine Mount Overhaul $2884. it was pretty beat up and needed it, lots of chafes all over it, they replaced 80% of the tubes on it. Engine Mount Vibration Isolators (the rubber shocks) are $999.80 Replacing...

    Fuselage Skin Repair

Somebody took the gear box out of that side? It sure looks weird, wonder what Textron would say about it. They often have standard repair procedures that are not published due to poor access that involves cutting things up. Unless a mechanic/inspector has seen the procedure with their own eyes...

    C150 Engine Upgrade

I would make a spreadsheet and summarize the total time on components and the dates they were installed for magnetos, spark plugs, spark plug wires, exhausts, alternator, vacuum pump, cylinders, hoses, oil cooler, engine mount, and go from there. If some of those are pretty new then it makes...

Fuel Tank Capacity Placards - actual or useable?

I'm gonna go with (C) They are there because of the CFRs required them. They are not a line guy or pilot tool. Changing them to something other than the appropriate and required ones as shown in the TCDS, STC, AD, Flight Manual, or Parts Manual verbiage would be illegal.

Fuel Tank Capacity Placards - actual or useable?

Textron if reasonably priced. If not, I make them on PowerPoint and send them to a vinyl decal company.
