    EAA life membership value?

At some point you will realize you've seen, heard, and read everything of value published in the magazine. Unless you are a life-long builder you may get to the point where you're not getting anything out of it. As a one time builder, I dropped AOPA about ten years ago. I stopped paying for my...

    Airports with a Hotel...

Concord CCR. Hotel 50 yards from the ramp with a gate right there. Great place to launch from for a Bay or Napa tour.

    Near miss/ CFIT

Damn near perfect recovery. Person must have some aerobatic training to pull off that maneuver. Most of us would have been dead in that scenario.

good movies I might not have seen?

Collateral with Tim Cruise. No airplanes but a well done thriller with Tom in the bad guy role.

Wow, your life sucks! %^) (only mildly jealous....)

RV-12 Fatal Crash - Control Failure 6/6 Auburn, WA

For those who think the DAR would find something like this, my one data point is that my DAR barely looked at my plane. He spent 15 minutes looking at my paperwork and no more than 10 minutes looking at my plane. He has one correction - add a missing label on the canopy. He never looked at the...

Napa County Airport (KAPC) - GA friendly FBO?

I need to fly in here and hopefully pick up a crew car for an hour. There are two FBO's listed - Atlantic and Skyservice. Both cater to the jet crowd but wondering if anyone has recent experience with either of these? Alternative is to rent a car, but I only need it for one hour so I'm trying...

    Sold C172

Wow! One special 172, for sure. Old POA members may remember a Henning ad that this reminds me of...

Aircraft Shoulder Harnesses: Are You Wearing Them Incorrectly?

I've been flying for 30 years and since I finished my homebuilt 6 years ago, I've been doing exactly this. I'm an idiot. Sometimes you know things but you put them in the back of your mind, instead of where they should be. I needed this reminder for me to do this right - and make sure my wife does.

Help me choose a plane for my mission (Hawaii)

Just have to say, you have my respect flying in Hawaii. I've done a couple of flights there and the terrain, wind, turbulence, fog, and over-water flying is more than my wimpy ass could deal with!

    Advice for loooooong cross-country

I flew from the CA Central Valley to the east coast (missed it by THIIISSS much) and back two years ago, VFR. A similar trip but my situation was a little different. Differences are: - flying a light sport homebuilt with short legs - had physical issues which limited my daily time in the...

    engine out, reducing drag

I tried this recently and agree. It was not as obvious that the engine was not running as you might think. Similar noise, similar vibration. Not exactly the same but with noise cancelling headset on not all that different at least in a small Lycoming.

Plane crash near California’s South Lake Tahoe

High DA with two people on board, and a Luscombe 8a - not a good scenario. Luther Pass elevation is over 7000 feet. With the high temps and winds in this area it seems insane that someone would try and fly this plane with 2 on board into these conditions. It makes no sense at all. The NTSB...

    Shop planning

Don't have a pic, but started with something like this but without the handle on one side. Then I bolted pieces of plywood on the sides and back such that they sit up about 18" from the top of the table. I'll try and remember to get a pic this weekend

    Shop planning

Putting some coating on the floor would keep the dust down. One of the things I didn't do until almost the end was make a rolling cart with 3 sided plywood above the surface. My cart is small enough - about 3ft x 2ft but with the 24" high "walls" on 3 sided I was able to hang about 90 % of the...

Not an emergency, but a lesson learned

I also used the "headset was off" answer to a potential flight problem once before. "It just sounded different because my headset was off"... it's a simple thing to excuse something for this reason. By posting this it will help remind you not to make the same mistake again - at least for a...

    Fresno Chandler Exec. (FCH) Pirep

I need to catch a commercial flight out of Fresno Int'l (FAT) next week and am considering flying my plane into FCH and leaving it there for 3 days. I can Uber over to FAT. I would like to know if there is transient parking at FCH, rather than dealing with an FBO? I've talked to Signature at...

VFR to IFR upgrade (before delivery of new aircraft)

Your two months away from receiiving your aircraft and your wondering why the manufacturer is balking at changing "your panel"? You must not understand all the design decisions, engineering, and assembly components that go into this. In many ways this changes your entire airplane. This changes...
