Talk Me Out of a Cirrus

Flew one once for a few minutes. It didn't feel like flying. Maybe it was the disconnect with the controls or the SUV interior. After a few minutes I just wanted to get out of it. Can't explain it, I love flying. I think I felt less safe in this weird-to-me vehicle. Maybe flying older aircraft...

Peripheral Edema - is it disqualifying?

There is a huge difference between a lay person reading a code, law, or regulation and attempting to do a literal interpretation of the language, versus a knowledgeable professional that understands the intent and historical application behind the rule. Dr. Bruce you're just wasting your time...

$100K? This Giveaway Shows How Out-of-Touch They Are With GA

"The current FLYING magazine contest feels disconnected from our needs, leaving us feeling overlooked and ignored." So a company wants to give you $100,000 - and you think this gesture makes you feel over-looked and ignored? What kind of entitled world do.....oh, forget it.

That's awesome! Though I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing? Maybe a little of both?

VFR in the mountains - a cautionary tale, especially for us flatlanders

In my mind there is a certain consistency in CA weather. Probably due to the moderating effects of the ocean . From my limited experienced it seems there was much more randomness to the weather east of the Rockies. Not that I really know....

VFR in the mountains - a cautionary tale, especially for us flatlanders

Good story. Thx for sharing. Made a bucket list cross country 2 years ago and quickly learned "vfr'" does not always mean it's ok to fly, for a number of different reasons. After flying in sunny CA for 30 years, I was not at all prepared for the weather crossing this country. Especially, the vfr...

1969 Cherokee 140B: Slow to climb

This is going to sound sarcastic but I don't mean it that way. My hope is that it is educational. Your engine is in an abnormal condition during climb-out and you don't know why. You have an innocent passenger on board yet you decide to risk your passengers life by continuing to fly for...

Why didn't they fly the plane back to the runway?

May have been too under powered for two men plus the added drag due to the canopy loss. And/or visibility of the pilot compromised when the canopy separated plus the inability to communicate with copilot due to noise and loss of headset. Also, possibly the uncertainty that the "explosion" may...

Three brothers with no PPL considering purchasing a plane

Being a pilot and flying sounds like a lot of fun. However, there is quite a difference between the idea of flying and the reality of being a pilot. Besides the time, effort, and financial commitment, there is also the ability to make decisions under stress. There is also the reality of...

    Aircraft Spark Plug Services Inc

I think having a proper testing unit is the issue. Rather than just an ohm reading which may not give a true condition of the plug.

    Talk to me about glasses

I use progressives and learened early on that the narrow, cool looking lenses, have very narrow focus areas. Because of this I got the large lenses which give greater focus areas and are better for flying. If you have the small vertical dimension progressives, you might want to try "taller" ones.

Not the end of the world…just looked liked it

I experienced this while "in prison" in Eastern Oregon some years ago. Scared the crap out of me but the guard I was with said it was just a dust storm he had seen before. The top was defined just like this which made it appear surreal. The facility engineer appreciated that I had included a...

    EarthX STC approved!

Same here. I live where the temps are over a 100 deg. in the summer and I fly in it. Never had a problem. However, limited air flow and high HP could conceivably cause a problem. Never heard of any of the Vans aircraft having this problem over the past 6 years I've been following. Most of those...
