    Things experienced folks observe

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is not on the pressurized plenum side? It appears to be between the firewall and the pressurized plenum. If this is the case, this has little or nothing to do with engine cooling. There is really no benefit to "fixing" this, other than aesthetics. I think...

    Things experienced folks observe

Painters tape on both sides of gap. Apply a thin bead of silicone sealant. Remove tape. On the other hand this gap is so small I ouwld just leave it unless you are in a cold climate and the cold air leakage is a problem in the cabin.

What is the most fun "Aviation tool/gear" you've purchased?

Just a cheap one; $200. My plane is light sport so I bought the lightest one I could find. Can't remember the name of it. It has zero vibration isolation (and I replaced the inflatable tires with solid rubber. inflatables kept going flat) so it's not fun to ride. Not something I would...

Do you call when you're the unknown traffic

This is the correct answer to your specific question. No idea why people chime in on stuff that is not related to a question.

What is the most fun "Aviation tool/gear" you've purchased?

Seems like a strange question. Everything I've purchased for my homebuilt is primarily safety related. Recently added a G5, I like it a lot. It's simplified some aspects of my traditional panel. Bought a collapsible scooter that's fits in the plane that has come in very handy. I think I have...

Why has Vashon sold so few Rangers, and will MOSAIC turn that around?

    Pilots don't trust new aircraft.

Lancair Makes a Emergency Landing on US1

Not many scenarios where a Lancair is going to make an off field landing safely. (high landing speed, tiny gear). Clearly some luck was on their side.

13 years later and they're still afraid to put the gear up? Clearly not on a fast track.

    ....

The problem with Mosaic is there is zero benefit to any politician to approve it, but many ways to make arguments against it. The "zero benefit" references the fact that those affected to benefit (us) represent a very small voting minority. With all the negative press related to aviation in...

    Auto conversion ideas

Jan's earlier conversions were suburu engines, and they did not work out well. However, Viking Aircraft Engines is a different company and uses Honda engines. With the possible exception of William Wynn I would argue he has more knowledge than anyone when it comes to auto conversions. He has...

    Auto conversion ideas

Viking Aircraft Engines have a very successful auto conversion that has become popular in every kind of experimental aircraft. I gladly trade in the Lycoming O-235 in my experimental if I had the money and physical ability to do it.

Experimental for my business travel. Yes/No

In this scenario an experimental may be beneficial since you can fix the plane yourself without having to wait to fit into an A&P schedule. You will need an A&P for the condition inspection.

Experimental for my business travel. Yes/No

Having a job that relies on transport by GA aircraft could be a problem, unless driving was an option for 50% of the time. If driving was still an option, then sure it's possible. In the op's case it sounds like they can set their own schedule.

    100LL And Lead Exposure

Holy necro-thread! I thought for a minute that the reports of Hennings death were greatly exaggerated, as some had suggested. Didn't recall his mission of mass extinction of the human race. Perhaps in his next life time....

    Tailbeacon without pitot static check

Pretty sure transponder is required to be on all the time if you have one installed. It's not an option to "choose" to leave it off.

    100% T&P va rating and a 1st class medical

No idea what your life is really like or whether you are fit for your goal. I thought I had more physical problems than just about anyone. Apparently I am at least number 2! I fly myself and my wife, but only when I'm feeling safe. There are many days when I am not good enough to fly. There is...

Two dead after Mooney door pops open. St Augustine FL

In some ways, the problems with airplanes is that they are too reliable. Emergencies are a theoretical situation that many never experience for real. I flew for 30 years and never had an "emergency" (semi) until recently. I did not handle it as well as I should have. Nor sure how it would...

    Lycoming Engine replacement

Wow! If my O-235 grenades itself I guess I'll be converting to a $12,000 modern engine with fuel injection and 4 gallon per hour fuel burn, more horsepower and significant increase in airspeed. And much lower mx and operating costs. (Viking). It makes you wonder about the economics of an...

Am I too big to be a CFI?

Yes. For some students you will be too large. To be fair, you can do whatever you'd like. If this is truly your passion, go for it. However, I would not want to take lessons from you in a 150/52, or even a 172. These planes are cramped enough for two people, much less a larger person like...
