    Air-to-Air Piper Arrow @pburger

Thanks. The paint job is from 2013. I used to feel the same way about what I called "swooshy" paint jobs. I spent a couple of months on designs with mainly straight lines, but I just wasn't feeling it. I finally caved and started down the "swooshy" road, and I'm glad I did. Here is what I...

Waiting 6 weeks for my PPL Checkride

Wow, that's a long time. And others are saying they've waited months. Just keep flying until the ride. Maybe you could do one or two mock check rides with your CFI, so when the day comes it will be no big deal.

Best Way to TPP Paperbook (Approach Plates)?

I always bought the loose-leaf plates and used the little plastic rings to hold them together. I would pull the plates I needed out and clip them to the yoke, or clip them on my kneeboard. I haven't bought printed plates in years. If I need one printed, I download and print it. Now, I mostly...

If you ever have an alternator fail in flight...

You might have the wrong bulb. The bulb for the ALT light should be a 6V bulb. It's a GE-328. It should be brighter than the other two when you press the test button. The OIL and VAC bulbs are standard 12V bulbs (GE-330).

How to choose what kind of flying you like?

Let's see... you've been a member since 2007, you have over 5000 posts on here, and you're asking the question "How do I decide what kind of flying I'd like to do?"?? The quest for a mission is all too common. I've known several people, myself included, who get an airplane and then end up...

    Airport name on CTAF

...but the airport called Rockport by the locals is "Aransas County Airport", not "Port Aransas". I guess I'm feeling overly pedantic today.

    Another fledgling! WhoooHooooo!

With an aviation heritage like that, I'm surprised she didn't get her ticket at 17! But better late than never! Beautiful plane! The Commander is the best looking GA airplane ever! Wait, best looking single-engine GA airplane ever! (The Twin Comanche wins for overall best looking GA...

    Airport name on CTAF

I think Van Johnston's point was that your post about confusing "Port Aransas Traffic" with "Rockport Traffic" doesn't make sense, because the airport in Rockport (Aransas Co. Airport) is 16 miles away from Port Aransas. Mustang Beach is the airport in Port Aransas.

    Airport name on CTAF

Yep, the Port A/Rockport thing didn't make sense at all. I figured he meant "Aransas Co.", which would make sense to be "Rockport Traffic" since it's in Rockport.

My airplane was in Texas today...

My plane has teleported to Florida a few times - at least according to FlightAware.

    Mask or no mask?

I generally mask up in public places, but not at home, in the car, or in the plane. However, I masked up a couple of weeks ago when I was flying practice approaches for currency with a safety pilot. We were in the plane on a warm day for about 2.5 hours. My safety pilot didn't bring a mask...

    TruTrak Vizion

You are not syncing the altimeter, you are selecting the target altitude. The target altitude behaves as you describe - Rotating the knob changes in increments of 500, and pressing the knob and rotating, changes in increments of 100. To sync the altimeter of the TruTrak, press the ALT button...

Is 2.9 HR Hobbs time normal for 1 hr & 36 min of real-time flight time?

Hobbs meters are typically tied to an oil pressure switch, so that it only records time when the engine is running. Leaving the master on should not increase the Hobbs time. Sounds like you have a broken Hobbs meter.

    Eddy Current Inspection? Piper SB-1345

DONE! PASSED! We had two Arrows inspected this morning. Both passed with NO CRACKS! (Just say no to crack!) We used Wally Warren (281-794-0947). Wally lives in Conroe, TX, which is just north of Houston. He charged us $600 per plane.
