    "minor" prop strike question

Been there, done that!! I had a cone-strike many years ago. Engine went back to Lycoming and prop went to Hartzell. Sounds like the prop strike described by the OP was handled correctly, with a teardown inspection at the factory, and a new prop.

SLOW J-3 on the VFR Arrival OSH

You have every right to be there. Flying a Cub to Oshkosh is a wonderful thing. Please arrive at RIPON after 7:30am on Sunday, though -- I plan to be at RIPON at 7:00 am. In all seriousness, please read the NOTAM and come on in. It will slow things down a bit, and people will pass you (even...

    Overcoming extreme nervous/irrational fears

I think the better simile would be "...it's like riding a bicycle..." that seems more appropriate to flying an airplane. Falling off a bike seems more like crashing one. Just sayin...

Discovery Flight: My first piston single ride!

Congrats on your flight! And on your determination to stick with it after a somewhat unpleasant experience. Did you actually experience vertigo (dizziness, disorientation, the world was spinning around)? or just motion sickness? Vertigo can be a real problem, and may be a sign of some...

    Depreciation on a 182

How much does it cost to fly? I don't know, I just do it. What will my plane be worth in 10 years? I don't know, I just fly it. I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things -- like worrying about what it costs!

    Well it finally happened- almost!

"Well it finally happened- almost!" Am I the only one who thought this was going to be about almost joining the Mile High Club?

    Panel power with engine off

A couple of comments on this: 1. As mentioned, a trickle charger will not supply enough power to run avionics. It will slowly charge up your battery and keep it topped off, but it is not suitable as an external power source. 2. Some things take longer than others. You may indeed need external...

Zero carbon emissions for major airline -- Do you think this is achievable? If so, how?

I'm guessing they meant a 50% reduction. If so, it's a shame that someone at that level of a major US corporation is that bad at math. If not, I'm wondering what "ground-breaking technology" they have invested in.

Zero carbon emissions for major airline -- Do you think this is achievable? If so, how?

I reviewed the rules, just in case. This is not a political post. It's a technical discussion prompted by a statement from the CEO of a major US airline. I got an e-mail today (April 13, 2021) from United Airlines. Here is an excerpt: "A note from our CEO, Scott Kirby. This Earth Month...

    1st Solo

Congratulations! You freakin' did it! I remember that same odd feeling from almost 32 years ago: There was a moment where I realized that I was going to have to land this plane one way or another. The moment passed, and I got about my business and did it, just like the dozens of times I had...

Good video about UAL#1175 Feb 2018

Someone shared this video with me this morning, and I just watched it over lunch. This was a great video. Capt. Chris Behnam tells the story of controlling the 777 after an engine failure at FL360 200nm from Honolulu.

    Electric Trim on Arrow II

Holy Moly! This thread was dead and buried. But since you dug it up.... Back in 2016 Muncie had the cork friction disks for the PET-1 trim servo: Part Number 690-608 at $64.74 each (from 2016). I had bought one about 20 years or so ago from Muncie for $8.00. Kinda wish I had bought more...

    RNAV Approach & TAA

Asked and answered. (I honestly thought "established" meant "established on a published approach segment" which would mean on an actual bold line shown on the approach plate. But RussR's reference clearly shows that being within the TAA is considered "established on the approach". I try to...

    Air-to-Air Piper Arrow @pburger

Love the pictures, of course. But I sure wish they'd let someone proof these articles: The specs they show are not for my plane, and there isn't an Arrow out there that stalls at 45kts! ...and the automatic gear extension wasn't phased out before the Arrow II. Mine had it from the factory...
