ForeFlight Now Requiring IOS 16 or Higher

I have an OLD mini 2 on my desk used for Flight Sim and it still receives database updates. It’s great that FF has maintained a consistent format for so long. I currently fly with an iPad 6 and iPhone 15 Pro Max both running FF. I know I’ll need to upgrade the iPad again in a couple of years...

    Electronic Logbook?

I've transitioned completely to Foreflight several years ago. Before that, I used the free version of Zululog.

Unbelievable Offduty Delta Mechanic notices GA Maintenance Issue from the Ground

Agreed - With the help of my Delta pilot friend, I notified Delta's director of maintenance operations. For all of the sanctimonious comments about missing this reversal, tell me you've never missed something simple. Anyone would assume the shop would get such a simple task correct. People in...

Unbelievable Offduty Delta Mechanic notices GA Maintenance Issue from the Ground

Last night I had the most unbelievable and unique exchange on Facebook Messenger. I had just flown home to KLZU from KPNS, where I and two friends had just flown down for the day to watch the Blue Angels Homecoming Airshow. I crossed the KATL Bravo at 4500 feet, where I passed over this...

    Spatial disorientation in IMC

Agreed. The most I would do IMC without an AP is climb straight through a low overcast layer to VFR on Top. Flying, talking, and navigating single pilot in hard IMC without a reliable and capable AP, especially with an aircraft that does not easily stay in trim, is asking for trouble.

    Winter flying and icing

Scary instrument landing in College Station TX last year. It was 35 degrees at 10,000 MSL, overcast 1000, tops 6500, no icing Airmets or PIREPs. I got down to about 3000 on approach when I started noticing the buildup on the wings. Probably should have broken off the approach and diverted...

    Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Best small detector out there, $99 on Amazon. Long lasting batteries, great sensitivity, and TINY. This replaces a built-in detector in the dash of my DA40 that I didn't feel like paying $800 to refresh. After annual 2 years ago, it picked up a small amount of CO from cosmoline or similar...

    Winter flying and icing

I'm curious, why would you use Skew-T when there are websites like Windy available? I find Windy invaluable all year round, but especially in winter months. The free version is incredibly powerful, and for $20/year, the premium version gives you even finer granularity.

Night Scenic Views - San Francisco City and SFO International Airport via KOAK Class C & SFO Class B Transitions

I flew many Bay Tours when I lived in Silicon Valley. Spectacular day or night. What type of camera are you using?

Hangar space in KRYY or KLZU

You might check with Jimmy Norton, Air Harbor KLZU, 770-609-8997. I lucked out and got in immediately when I bought a Diamond a couple of years ago. KPDK was a 5-year wait. One big plus is Jimmy has some 45' T hangars, which are perfect with my Diamond wingspan of 39'6".

Looking to rent Single piston aircraft for around the world adventure RTW.

Several people have flown Diamonds around the world. As discussed previously, a DA40NG, DA42NG, or DA62 are ideal as they burn Jet-A. I believe all still required a turtle tank in the backseat. While I personally own a DA40, I wouldn't ever try it in a single. Having flown many times in...

    Grand Canyon West airport 1G4

No worries. One note of caution - there are A LOT of helicopters buzzing in and out of KGCN. I've never given much thought to helicopters and wake turbulence until seeing recent postings about helicopter rotor wash actually flipping small planes coming in on final. Everyone knows to avoid...

    Replacing my infamous iPhone X

Haha, glad mine didn't land there. Not enough sanitizer in the world to recover that. There is another video where a guy lost his phone 1000' above a beach in Iceland and it survived. I was shooting a still so I did not capture the ride to the ground. But I haven't heard of one surviving a...

    Replacing my infamous iPhone X

You can see it in the video at 5:52 as I found it. I expected it to be half buried or in pieces, but it was just lying flat on its back with very little indentation in the hard dry soil. You can see more dirt on the bottom right corner where it likely struck the ground first. The soybean...

    Replacing my infamous iPhone X

I wanted to give the owner $50 for the crops. Drove around looking for the owner, but no houses within a mile. This was just a few months into the pandemic so I didn't think it was wise to start knocking on doors in rural Arkansas. Good way to get shot ;-) I actually reached out to the local...
