    Starter O-Ring

Trying to find a part number and source for the o-ring that fits around the working end of a Delco starter, providing an oil seal between the starter and the starter adapter on an IO-520D. Delco starter is P/N 1108249. All help is appreciated!

    GNC355 Weak Transmit

This has been a valuable discussion for those of us considering the GNC-355. I am a bit curious as to what the proposed Garmin software update is intended to fix? Please provide some follow-up reports as time goes by. Thanks!

    Tire Choices

This is an excellent point I had not considered! Thanks to everyone that contributed - I did learn a few things which was my goal in the first place. I'm going to try the Michelin's and see how they last and how they feel. I have Goodyear FC III on my other plane so I can do a little...

    Tire Choices

Yes, correct. I am aware of the specs in the TCDS. Perhaps my original post was not worded properly. I was trying to understand the difference in the construction of the Michelin 6.00x6 tires. If there is a good case to be made for moving to an 8-ply tire I would consider doing this and seeking...

    Tire Choices

Actually I was hoping for some discussion on the construction difference in the various tire choices. The maintenance manual for my aircraft is over 60 years old and does not offer much guidance on tire selection.

Only when I have my JATO rockets attached. Guess you are saying I should eliminate that option...

    Tire Choices

I'm thinking about trying out a Michelin tire. Of the three options for 6.00x6 trying to understand if there is a real need to go with an 8-ply tire or the 160mph tire. Can't seem to locate any helpful into. I really hate to bring up the tire argument again but trying to make an informed...

What’s your source for Piper parts?

Since many of the parts in my Bellanca came originally from Piper, I had the same need to find a parts source. As it happened I made contact with a very helpful person at Mather Aviation in Van Nuys, CA. Jennifer Jacobson, parts manager. She took the time to look up parts for me, contacted me...

    Cleveland Wheel Bearing Race Wear

All great advice, which I am taking heed of! Back to the comment from eagle eye the MuseChaser concerning a possible crack. Will a dye penetrant inspection process be appropriate regardless of whether the wheels are aluminum or magnesium (a test which I will perform using the Alodine method!)...

    Cleveland Wheel Bearing Race Wear

Just to confirm... the wheel halves are magnesium, correct?

Thanks very much for the observation and note of caution... I will examine this carefully!

    Cleveland Wheel Bearing Race Wear

Dan, your advice is certainly a good point... I will treat the wheels with a lot of care. Next, since I will have the wheels apart I'm going to go ahead and install new tires and tubes. I'm going to start a new thread for my tire questions. Thanks very much for all of the helpful replies!

    Cleveland Wheel Bearing Race Wear

Yep, like I said this new design came out in 2011. I obtained the details directly from Parker/Cleveland. For the Cleveland wheels, assy 40-75 the grease seals are: -- 154-12000 -- 154-12400 Different part for the inner & outer seals according to the Cleveland drawings and parts list.

    Cleveland Wheel Bearing Race Wear

My wheels do in fact have the felt seals and your point about the deficiencies with the felt is certainly accurate. However I was able to obtain a copy of the latest Cleveland engineering drawing which now reflects a change away from the felt seals (drawing Rev G from 2011). The new design...

    Cleveland Wheel Bearing Race Wear

Dave! I had no idea you were such an active contributor on POA - it's Rob here - you have been so helpful with all of your advice on my new to me Viking. These photos are from the Viking and based on my inspection of the airframe there is not much corrosion, but anything is possible. As you...

    Cleveland Wheel Bearing Race Wear

The attached pictures show what I found when I pulled the wheels for some landing gear maintenance. Not sure if the wear marks on the bearing race are referred to as fretting or brinelling, but I would like to understand what the cause is – any ideas? These marks are deep enough to be felt...

    LED Anti-Collision Lighting Systems

Thanks for feedback... question: does the Whelen system have different options for the flashing sequence. For example can it be setup for a double-flash with each wingtip synchronized?

    LED Anti-Collision Lighting Systems

My plan is to upgrade my anti-collision lighting system with flashing LEDs on the wingtips. I am familiar with the Whelen Orion series and the AeroLED products. Are there any other manufacturers making these systems for certificated aircraft? Any pireps on any of these products? Thanks for...

    Control Cable Rehab

Back in the '50s & '60s many high performance planes seem to use the same style controls for throttle, prop & mixture - very plain looking. I will post a picture or two later. Now everything I find has a "new and improved" style which is not really bad at all - I just like to preserve the...
