Engine options for rans S-21 outbound?

From what I read , majority of s21 builders install either Titan (most) or Rotax 915. I would personally go with Rotax 915 since it is a modern ( and imho better ) engine but Titan will give you more power unless you plan to fly at altitude ( where turbo Rotax starts to shine ) I would stay...

Questions regarding sport pilots licenses and MOSAIC

FAA says they are introducing Mosaic in the first place precisely because after 20 years of LSAs data they see no significant difference in terms of overall safety record between traditional GA/PPL and LSA/SP , which makes the above somewhat of a moot point …

Questions regarding sport pilots licenses and MOSAIC

If Mosaic passes, it looks to me like over time will end up with some kind of merge between PPL and SP with the final process being similar to what you get in the automotive industry - some kind of formal medical required only for commercial operations.

    Sovereign Citizen nearly causes midair

NY? For some reason I picture that state as a place where everything is “verboten” by default and one is expected to apply for permission as a starting point for just about everything ….

    Sovereign Citizen nearly causes midair

Well, his whole point was that they can go f*** themselves so I guess it wont be very effective.. and frankly, being that this is happening in Alaska, he probably earned that right …. :-)

    Sovereign Citizen nearly causes midair

The fact that he did take off against traffic and without using radio most likely has nothing to do with his lack of medical or frankly anything related to his alleged “free citizen” status - I know some very ordinary folks with medicals and without any claims to being “sovereign” that were...

Bonanza down at Long Island Airport

Statistically flying a GA plane is a lot more risky than driving a car and is about as risky as riding a motorcycle.

Bonanza down at Long Island Airport

Not sure about that … I remember reading that engine failure rate was something around 1 per 10 000 hours ( and thats all failures not just catastrophic ones ) which suggests to me that your average GA pilot with 2k hours or so total has a pretty good chance of not having to deal with this issue...

    Sport pilot failing PPL checkride

The point here is that getting a sport certificate requires pretty much as much effort as getting your PP and the hard part to master , the part where you have to learn how to fly, land and master these skills under differing circumstances , is exactly the same so why not go for PPL directly.

    Sport pilot failing PPL checkride

There is barely any difference between effort you need to put to get one of these certs - i would go for PP directly.

Does a felony 35 years ago automatically mean deferral

For commercial flying this makes some sense ( and it should really be up to employers) but for PP and private flying what business is that of FAA to even ask questions like that ?

Return to flying after heart attack?

I think you are right on the money with LSA, and if Mosaic goes thru then , unless you are flying commercially, there is absolutely no reason to waste thousands of dollars on potentially risky SI where a refusal can end up closing the door for good.
