    50 NM Cross Country?

For years I only few gliders. I did a lot of soaring competitions and "cross country" flying. In most cases a day's contest or cross country flight was supposed to start and end at the same point. That was the idea. If one landed "out" (farm field, other airport) it was kind of a failure. Fast...

    RRRRRRRough River 2023! (2I3 4/21/2023 - 4/23/2023)

With some misgivings because of the total no-show that seems to happen on every southeast pilots flyin lunch Sue & I have booked a lodge room for Rough River. I have seats in the 414 so anyone that would like to share and can leave from KCVC let me know. Hope to see all of you there again.

    Commercial, why do it?

From the POA peanut gallery: I got my commercial and multi certificates/rating also with no idea why or how I'd ever use them. Ended up with 3 jet type ratings, ATP certificate, CFIA and CFII: all pretty much paid for by others. Had a lot of fun as well. But if I didn't have the certificates up...

I can go but I’ll be POd if mine’s the only plane there. Can take others that could come to KCVC.

Independent cfi's: who do you have schedule the checkride?

In general I schedule the check ride. Sure all DPEs test to the ACS, but I don't want any surprises. If we use the DPE that's based at our field, I'll usually go for the first paperwork part, just to be sure there are no IACRA or logbook problems as a curtesy for my students. And as far as...

    SE Pre-Christmas Burger Fly-in 2022 (12-10-22)

I’d go but don’t want to be the only one to show up. I’m afraid that would happen. Hate eating alone. Get that instrument rating guys.

    SE Pre-Christmas Burger Fly-in 2022 (12-10-22)

No Bahamas this week so I could do GMU lunch on Saturday. I would certainly have seats if any Atlanta area peeps would like to come. Out of CVC. Sharing would be appreciated but not required.

    Selling my Mooney

If you're selling an aircraft, use a known aircraft escrow company (most are based in Oklahoma City). It's not that expensive (fee can be split with the buyer). It protects all parties. If buyer won't do this, walk away. If you're a buyer and seller won't do this, walk away.

Plane in wires near KGAI (Montgomery County, MD)

To be honest I’m not sure if power lines are on the synthetic vision. But forget all that. This guy was clearly way below minimums looking for the runway. Ya just don’t do that. It does show the strength of the Mooney tube frame. I think most other singles would have just folded up and killed them.

10th I’ll probably be in Bahamas. If that trip doesn’t happen, I’ll plan for GMU.

Anyone flying to a Thanksgiving destination?

We're just going to be driving less than an hour to my son's mother-in-laws for the big dinner today. But for many years when my parents were alive we would fly the Mooney to Arlington, TX, loaded up with food, every Thanksgiving. Good flying and family memories.

    United Flying Octogenarians

6 years to go, but I really want to be able to join this group. Was just able to renew insurance on my 414 for another year, but I know the clock is ticking on that. The rampant ageism of the aviation underwriters is very irritating.

    Any contract pilots here?

I’ve been doing occasional contract pilot work for over 10 years. What can I tell you?

Cessna Twin Down, Middlefield, OH 10/13

Shut down and feathered the good engine? Run out of gas? At 6-7,000 feet an engine shutdown in a 310 should be a non event. On to the nearest suitable airport.
