    Recommendations for flying into Atlanta

As another possibility, my airport KCVC is 36 miles from aquarium. The Uber ride would be longer, but parking is free, gas is relatively cheap and numerous hotels close to airport that would be less than in town. Plenty of places to eat too.

    Out of my comfort zone

I may respectfully disagree with your analogy. As a one time competition glider pilot who had to deal with a total engine failure in a Mooney, I believe the glider experience helped me a lot. Even though spin recovery may vary between types having done some should lessen the startle factor and...

    Out of my comfort zone

Went to Catch 27 on Charlotte St for dinner (before I saw this post). Food was excellent. Plan for Barley Republic tomorrow. Will catch O’Steens soon. Thanks.

    Out of my comfort zone

So a student (hypothetically) inadvertently puts me into an extreme unusual attitude. What to do? Book learning ain’t enough. I decided that proper instruction would be wise. With some apprehension I signed up for the 5 hour basic acrobatic course at Patty Wagstaff’s Aviation Safety School at...

    DPE PPL price

Wow, your DPE took a check. All the ones I've encountered want CASH only. I think the pass/fail and prepared/not prepared comparisons aren't quite so black and white correlated. I admit to not having a perfect first time pass rate for my students. My compliments to those of you that do. But...

    Why haven't you been to a POA fly-in ?

I want this reposted because I too am amazed and pleased to see so many SOs coming and enjoying these flyins. This year's RR was fantastic in this regard. My wife too now looks forward to going. Those of us that have attended many years or just one or two of these want newbies. The events need...

    Air struts for Cessna 421b

$29.68 from Amazon for both front baggage doors. Had to enlarge two holes for the ball studs. Took 30 minutes. I’m sure you can find an STC for 1 AMU or so if you prefer.

What's the deal with CFII's that don't want to fly IMC?

I look for a chance to get into imc with my instrument students. The common comment after is that it’s not like the foggles at all. My 172 has G5s on the left side so it can be a little stressful and my neck ends up sore, but it’s worth it for the student. I’ll ask ATC for a block altitude if...

Why is my mechanic so against a turbo?

Well I’ll play the contrarian here. I love my two turbos. One turbo failure in 7 years of flying my 414 I admit I wasn’t happy about, but OTOH I’ve seen every other make and model in shops with broken stuff too. I see the limited advantage in non-pressurized planes, e.g. Navaho, 310, etc. Use...

Why is my mechanic so against a turbo?

Then fly lower. That’s the advantage of the turbo. Pilot can fly low or high.

Why is my mechanic so against a turbo?

A turbo adds some complications and potential costs. OTOH being able to fly higher let’s you take advantage of some nice tail winds, can get you over weather and offers higher TAS. If fuel controller is set up properly, there’s nothing difficult to operating a turbo. I’ve been operating two...
