Can the FAA deny a medical that has expired?

So if a 40 yr old airman applies and is issued a SI time limited for 1 year, his application is still open for the 2nd year even though the SI certificate expired? Does that mean he can get the certificate renewed without another MedXpress application?

    DUI conviction medical ETA?

An FAA analyst informed me that there are two doctors in the entire FAA who handle the drug/alcohol cases. One does the 1st/2nd class medicals. The other does the 3rd class medicals. I've also heard that once a case is deferred to DC, it enters a medical black hole. No one really knows what...

    HIMS Review Timeline

So I was told that over 40, your medical application, for application purposes, remains open for 2 years before it expires. How is it that Airmen are receiving expired certificates? Is the date of certificate issue the date of application transmittal?

Can the FAA deny a medical that has expired?

This doesn't even make sense. An expired medical certificate is no longer a certificate. As long as you did not start an application for renewal of said certificate, there is nothing to revoke once the certificate expires (I assume it expires March 31st?). So long as they don't revoke it before...

    FAA MedXPress Approval Delay

What they're saying is that if he has a medical certificate in hand, he is good to go and doesn't need to check MedXpress. Not sure why he even is if he has the certificate in hand. Unless he receives a letter from the FAA stating otherwise, he is good to go with a valid medical certificate in hand.

    HIMS Review Timeline

In speaking with an FAA analyst on this, they removed the 60 day warning as it resulted in a huge influx of calls to OKC, slowing down their work load.

    HIMS Review Timeline

In checking my status on MedXpress, since about November, there used to be a flag note saying - "Your application was transmitted more than 60 days ago. Please call the Aerospace Medical Certification Division at..." Just recently (within the last few days), when checking the status, this...

    HIMS Review Timeline

I renewed my application for a 3rd class medical and had my physical done by my HIMS AME on August 18th. This is not a renewal, but an initial application. Application was transmitted on August 22nd. Application went in review on September 26th, 2022, and it has been there ever since. What's...

Pursing Career as a commercial pilot at 27 with DUI.

The issue with BAC is that if a DUI goes back a long time ago (12 years at time of first application in my case), the court documents don't have it published. The police narrative would, but most agencies purge their records after 3 years. Thus you're stuck unable to produce documentation that...

Cessna 172M - Carb temp greater than OAT

Follow up - as the plane is down for annual and engine swap, as I stated above, I had thought the carb temp sensor was wired with type K thermocouple wire. As it turns out, it was actually hooked up to two of the three conductors in a M27500-24TG3T14 wire. So this rules out thermocouple wire...

Cessna 172M - Carb temp greater than OAT

Makes sense. According to Garmin's diagrams (and the fact that the sensor has only two wires), the two wires of the sensor go to two pins respectively on the GEA 24. More than likely, power is being supplied via an internal pull up resistor, making the RTD sensor the bottom of a potential divider.

Cessna 172M - Carb temp greater than OAT

The sensor has two black wires on it. It's an RTD sensor. That is spliced onto Type K thermocouple wire.

Cessna 172M - Carb temp greater than OAT

Funny. I'll add that there is a significant RPM difference between heat on and heat off, so that rules out carb heat leak. The carburetor is a Marvel-Schebler. The plug above the data plate seen in this photo was removed and the sensor installed there. Sensor is a UMA 1B10R (Garmin p/n...

Cessna 172M - Carb temp greater than OAT

Hi all. We have a PFD/MFD Garmin G3X Touch system with Garmin GEA 24 engine analyzer installed. We're seeing carb temps about 20°+ greater than OAT all the time. On the ground without the engine running, it reads ambient temp along with the CHT and EGT senders (within a few degrees of them I'd...

Student pilot: 21 year old DUI, sober for 19 years, active in recovery

This thread was a great read. I, too, am playing the HIMS game due to two DUI's in my 20's (first one in 2003, BAC 0.11, and second one in 2008, BAC 0.13). My timeline has been a bit longer than yours - Did 3rd class physical in March of 2020. Medical was deferred. Sent in current copy of...
