^^^THIS!!! They would have to prove that whatever condition you had that made you BasicMed eligible, but 3rd class ineligible, was the cause of the incident, in order to deny the claim. That would be impossible in something like a loss of engine power scenario, or a pilot deviation scenario...

Sounds to me like the OP has never held an aeromedical certificate. BasicMed would not have been an option (Light Sport would have though).

BasicMed is all about self certifying. So long as you don't develop a new mental, neurological, or cardiovascular condition requiring a one time special issuance medical certificate, it's between you and your physician.

Through Choice Lab Inc, the testing by itself only ran me $1,600/yr. If your medical is timed out, you no longer need to do the 3 month visits to your AME, but your AME will still get the test results. $1,600/yr is unaffordable?

Yes keep the testing in place while you're on BasicMed. That will make it loads easier to go back onto a HIMS SI as there will be no gaps in your monitoring, and you can prove continued abstinence throughout your BasicMed time.
