Learning to change your own oil

Started with some research. There was a great write-up on the Twin Cessna Flyer forum, then my A&P gave me some over-the-shoulder training on the first oil changes. I was sure to walk away with the correct torques for the drain plug and oil screen, as well as the correct PNs for the crush...

The Use Of Checklist - Good or bad?

Coming from the Army, "use of the checklist is mandatory." Mind you, there are expanded procedures that must be memorized, such as the checklist item "Overhead circuit breakers and switches - check." That's one item on the checklist, with 25 substeps to that item. That's where the flow comes...

    Boats, Planes, and Taxes

I grew up with slalom, trick and barefoot - but just slalom in the last decade. The proliferation of the wakeboard boats are the antithesis of what makes for conditions conducive to the water sports I enjoy(ed). So now it's just the 35' cruiser that keeps me and the bride happy - and the dog too!

    Boats, Planes, and Taxes

Pro Tip: Just like a pre-buy with an aircraft, with a boat that is of significant cost, a marine survey is money well-spent prior to signing on the dotted line. Of course I say that (or type it), but I have never had one done on boats I've purchased over the years. But I know my way around...

    Boats, Planes, and Taxes

OK first thing's first. Yes, boats have gotten ridiculously expensive over that past 10 or so years. However, they've never really been "cheap" (Break Out Another Thousand). I've owned boats all my life. If there ever was a time I didn't own a boat, I was shopping for one. I've never bought...

Best Way to TPP Paperbook (Approach Plates)?

If you must use paper, leg straps are available that are clear. I used mine for 15 years before I switched to EFB on my iPad. Good luck on your ride.

    Highway or Field?

I read the same thing. As a twin driver around here, OEI would be perfectly executable, especially in the vicinity of his intended airport LXT. But there could have been other factors - gross weight, experience, proficiency, etc. - that played a role in the decision to put it down on the...

    Highway or Field?

This Twin Bonanza just landed on the highway in KC yesterday. Successful outcome, but far from guaranteed. https://www.kctv5.com/news/local_news/beechcraft-twin-bonanza-plane-lands-on-i-470-past-douglas-street-in-lee-s-summit/article_86ec3154-9a08-11ea-aa2c-9b6b789dc053.html

Stratus 3 and iPad - "ignore" your own tail number?

Thanks for the comprehensive response John! Are these configuration changes something I can accomplish at the user level? Looking at both the Trig 31 User Manual and Installation Manual makes no reference to changing the configuration to only receive on UAT. Thanks again for the feedback.

Stratus 3 and iPad - "ignore" your own tail number?

Posed the same question to Hilton / WingX, and here is their response: "Hello, thank you for reaching out. This feature is not currently available in WingX but I will be certain to forward your comments to the WingX Team. Thank you. Support Team Hilton Software"

Stratus 3 and iPad - "ignore" your own tail number?

I did get this response from Appareo: “Thanks for contacting Appareo. You will want to reach out to the the developer of WingX Pro to see if they allow you to disable ownship. I believe this is Hilton Software. The only thing I can think of to truly get rid of it is to disable GPS, but they may...

Stratus 3 and iPad - "ignore" your own tail number?

Good morning fellas. I recently got a Stratus 3 for my ADSB-In, displayed using WingX. My Trig 31 takes care of ADSB-Out. The SA with the ADSB-In is great on the iPad - both traffic and Wx/NOTAMs. Here's my question: is there a way to ignore my own tail number for the ADSB-In traffic as...
