    Mid-air, KMEV Minden-Tahoe

I did not see that. If true, that is very sad.

    Mid-air, KMEV Minden-Tahoe

While see-and-avoid should be used, it simply does not work all the time. The 206 pilots knew the Swift was close by, but could not see him. I am glad for ADS-B.

    Let's talk turbines for SELs

This looks very promising, but why only 141hp? https://www.turbotech-aero.com/solutions/#turboprop In cruise, this would support a Cessna 182 at 100% power (equivalent to 50% power on the O-470) burning 10 gph. It would not be powerful enough for a takeoff, however. With all the technology...

Boeing CEO is taking a pay cut

It looks like tough times are getting tougher for Boeing. I hope they don't go bankrupt. https://www.flyingmag.com/aircraft/boeing-to-furlough-workers-amid-ongoing-strike/

What is up with fractional jet ownership companies?

Neither. I am just curious about this business model.

What is up with fractional jet ownership companies?

All I hear is bad news, like this one: https://www.flyingmag.com/business/terminated-volato-employees-file-class-action-lawsuit/ Can someone tell us about the positive side of such businesses?

    Continental 0470 R - Cylinder Replacement Inevitable?

Thank you for the input. That's the first time I read this. Most others are basing their engine ops on either LOP/ROP (2 different schools of thought) or absolute CHTs (some saying the lower the better; others saying to keep it around 380, which I think would be consistent with your input).

Jump starting a 'plane with a battery pack

I carry an external 12V lithium battery. Apparently, if my battery dies, I can just connect this one to the main battery leads and it will start the plane. Have never used it, so not sure how well it would work. Not sure what the advantage of using the ground power plug would be, so I did not...

    Egregious FBO charges

The vast majority of time, in my experience, the fees are not listed anywhere. This is why I call every time.

Insurance Company Throws A Logical Twist

Does AOPA offer insurance? If not, that is a failure on their part.

    Egregious FBO charges

What if they charged him $15,000? Do you still justify that? Where is the limit? Fees should be transparent. They are not, because they can get away with it.

    Egregious FBO charges

Wow, AOPA sent a letter to FAA 7 years ago. Such a great effort on their part. In the last 7 years, they have collected $350M from their membership, and nothing has improved in terms of FBO fees (they have gotten worse). What a horrible representative organization we get.

    Flight following

Nothing. If a controller complains about it, I just reduce my altitude by 200 and all is good.
