    Lilium Runs Out of Money

Reliability of EVs takes into account all the recalls that are just software updates. EVs are dramatically more reliable than ICE cars, since they have far fewer moving parts. They also require little or (usually) no maintenance for the first 200,000 miles or so (which is when they may need new...

    New panel for a 206

I think you should consider Dynon/Avidyne combo. That is what I would install if I were re-doing my panel.

    Houston: Robinson R44 helo down

It sounds like you've done a thorough analysis and accurately predicted the error rates for every scenario.

    Houston: Robinson R44 helo down

Pilotless helis/eVTOLs will not make these kind of mistakes.

    Lilium Runs Out of Money

Yes, this would be much better for the society, but my understanding is that building new rail lines is nearly impossible due to having to go through land whose owners do not want it.

    Lilium Runs Out of Money

I did not compare the range, because it does not apply here. eVTOLs will not have the same range as helis, and their initial business plan does not require it. The real use case is Manhattan-JFK and other short, but busy commutes. In terms of EVs, they are not for everyone, due to their range...

    Lilium Runs Out of Money

A complete assumption: their operating costs will be much smaller than helis, similar to EVs compared to ICEs. We have had 2 EVs for 4 years and have had zero maintenance on them. They cost 2.5-3 cents per mile to run. All this adds up to an opex that is several times lower than comparable ICEs.

    [NA] Tourism; the Alps

September will be least crowded of the good months. The hiking trails will not be crowded ever, but the gondolas/trains will.

    [NA] Tourism; the Alps

Fly into Zurich or Geneva. Rent a car. For Eiger, stay in Interlaken, drive to Lauterbrunnen, then use gondolas/trains wherever you'd like. For Mont Blanc, drive over the gorgeous pass and stay in Chamonix. Hike/train/gondola anywhere you'd like. I recommend both the south and north side of the...

    So I bought a C182 - what now?

    - Take the maintenance course from CPA (2 days in person). You will learn the tiniest details about your plane. - Get a CFI and go fly slowly in all regimes, to get a feel for the stalls. - Consider getting a BRS - Get an engine monitor if you dont have one - After you get comfy, take all your...

    Smell a rat on Spirit...

Do plane manufacturers have an SOP for getting rodents out of the plane? When the rodent dies, it will be even more difficult to get rid of the smell.

IH Scout fans: What do you think of the new one?

Not enough info yet to make any meaningful conclusion, except that it looks nice. Rivian R1S is the benchmark, so we'll see how they compare.

    Absolutely crazy Bo fuel tanks

It's very frustrating that engineers built such a complicated fuel system that can kill a very experienced pilot. Why not have a "both" setting? https://www.flyingmag.com/aftermath/its-up-to-pilot-to-ensure-quirk-doesnt-turn-into-pitfall/ "In order to understand how a man described by his old...

    Balloon Ride in NM, recommendations?

I recommend you save White Sands for another trip, as it will waste a lot of your precious time. Places I love: - Ghost ranch (and sunset hike to Chimney Rock) - Rio Grande gorge bridge west of Taos - High road from SF to Taos, with stops at 2-3 missions - Bandelier NM - Valles Caldera NM -...

    Eviation redesigned Alice

Thank you. I think this may be exactly why Eviation changed their design recently. The shape of the fuselage on the version that flew was probably not easy to mass manufacture.

    Eviation redesigned Alice

I am sure it is. However, Eviation changed their design after the first flight. Makes no sense.

    Eviation redesigned Alice

Here are some planes that took less than 5 years from design to certification: B707 - 4 years Concorde - 4 years (this is obviously the best example here) E170/190 - 5 years A320 - 4 years Eviation is on their 3rd design. Since their first flight, they changed their design. Why?

    Eviation redesigned Alice

It drives me crazy when a plane manufacturer spends many years changing the design, with no certification and commercialization. Companies used to crank out certified planes in 2-3 years. Why can't they design and certify a plane, become profitable, then fiddle with the design? Same thing has...
