Choosing a "public benefit" flying organization

Do they pay for fuel? I thought the whole thing was a charitable contribution. Do all require IR?

    Saying hello!

I've always wanted a Mooney since seeing a 231, I think, during my initial training. Maybe when the kids are gone. Welcome from up North!

    For Sale Zulu 3 Headset

So you probably won't take $600 for them . . . That was quick! ETA - maybe not. I missed the original post.

    Seems like a good plan?

@kaiser isnt this the warmest water temp of the year? Honest question. I thought late August to Sept are the warmest. Still not that warm.

    Seems like a good plan?

Was that your first video with your former ride? Is this the inaugural video with the new ride?

    Comfortable Ownership?

@WDD i was working with a group to set up a partnership to buy a Skylane this year. Never really came together but . . . One point of diversion was OH fund. Part of the group wanted to contribute cash with the buy-in to fund the OH fund. A few wanted no initial reserve and a higher hourly and 1...

    Comfortable Ownership?

@Jim K im envious whenever I see your posts and pics. I think you would accept your situation is the exception? You run your own business/farm. You are a doer. My hunch is your wife loves for you to lead (most women actually do) and doesn't fight you on it (I don't think this is true of most)...

    Midfield - downwind

@Mahneuvers what ATC response were you expecting? That seems like the perfect setup to me, or are you saying you were too close? @2nd505th i see more. Already set up sort of on the right base. Maybe ATC needed spacing or forgot where you were or simply messed up with midfield downwind. I'd...

    Comfortable Ownership?

@RyanB - you are living the bachelor dream! You can afford an airplane. The one thing I never considered until looking seriously this year (because renting was very restrictive with my schedule) - you'll usually get most of your initial investment back (maybe less if buying at the peak - but...

    Comfortable Ownership?

@RyanB refresh my memory. Are you married, sir?

    I’m calling the peak

@Motor6 your question way back there on pg 6 made me smile. Before kids, aviation was no benefit to my wife in anything I could rent. If we couldn't beat the door to door time (and price) on United, she wasn't interested (we don't have a lake house etc.). Since kids - she won't fly because of...

Lake in the Hills Airport (3CK) is closed to planes until October

@Feh @Hypie do you guys own or rent? I had a few conversations around a Tiger partnership there that was exciting and then prices went nuts! And the share of the plane + hangar was a bit steep with some other financial priorities right now. I was surprised at how much the ground lease was when...

Lake in the Hills Airport (3CK) is closed to planes until October

Galt actually has a beautiful recently constructed 2,800x40 asphalt runway (9/27) and they do have the north/south grass. Actually an awesome airport. Great airport community A&Ps on the field really nice runway (never checked for approaches) BUT - Wonder Lake is 45 min each way from me. 3CK...

Lake in the Hills Airport (3CK) is closed to planes until October

Agreed @donjohnston Supported by the village. Instrument approaches. Self service and full service fuel and A&Ps on the field. Some seem unhappy with management? Galt, maybe, Campbell until it closes? IDK. Are you in a t hangar there or one of the shared wall (no walls) hangars?

    RGBeard's Dad, Russ.

He wore a suit to fly GA. Says a lot about your dad. Very well written tribute. God speed Russ. We'll all be thinking about you and your family Rusty.

I've heard some based pilots may not come back, but it'll be nice when it's done.

    Landed on closed runway

So . . . I know it is different when you have a "both" position vs not. And tip tanks/multiple tanks is more complicated. How do folks manage fuel? In most of my flights, unfortunately, not a concern. 1-1.5 hours and flying a trainer with full tanks (4-5 hrs range). I've heard (in...
