    ORD remains the worst

@mandm you are at UGN? If they are landing to the West how would you propose we transit the lakefront if not low? I agree they aren't welcoming but I almost always get flight following or a response (try RFD approach on 121.0 in 5 miles . . . ) But I trained/grew up here. From my early...

Heard @Martin Pauly on frequency today (I think 133.5 around 11am maybe?). I was on a short flight back in to 06C from the west. Not enough time to make the lunch but fun to hear a known voice and tail number. Hope it was a good turn-out.

    BUMMMFITCHH, pre-landing checklist questions

I'm really guilty of not reading the checklist post takeoff. My current main ride is fuel injected 172. So I check fuel on both, mixture rich and landing light on. CFIs have been riding me about this so I'm trying to change the habit but to your point - a lot going on right there and my 172...

Flying fatigue with maybe a dash of seasonal melancholy

@ArrowFlyer86 where are you based again? UGN? Maybe it was LOT? Check out Gambit Aviation at ARR. spice it up. I think, also, sometimes you're in a funk. Is this even worth it? I get there at least and my job creates so much stress. I skip flights just to keep the peace elsewhere...

    BUMMMFITCHH, pre-landing checklist questions

@DCR im late in replying. (1) your 172 is not a glorified go-kart with wings. It'll kill you just as dead as a TBM. (2). Good on you to ask questions and seek to keep learning. (3). If you have a fuel injected engine, carb heat doesn't apply to your 172. (4). If you have a carburetor you...

    First looooong Comanche trip

Agree with @morleyz - I trained at an airport (1C2) east of JOT and we would practice all over there. Flying out of 06C now and we go West but flight schools all along there hang out in that SW corner. Sounds like an awesome adventure! What, if anything, would you do differently?

What do you consider life changing money

@Brad W have you looked into looping? There are at least Facebook pages for loopers, not sure about a loopers of America board. Many are stuck in Chicago with temperatures dropping because a drawbridge is stuck down (for weeks at this point) but seems like an epic bucket list adventure.

    Switch from Regional to Mainline

@Jeff767 that's what I thought, too, but the press disagrees. I'll have to dig fit the articles but from this summer she showing the traditional ~$20k with terrible duty times etc.

    Switch from Regional to Mainline

I was surprised to read how low regional pay was. I thought all of that was bumped up with the pilot shortage and was encouraging a friends som to check it out. He came back with crazy low numbers. I said that's not right but . . . Google says it is. Fir 1-5 years at the regional, after paying...

What do you consider life changing money

@DaleB whats your plan for medical? In retirement do folks just use Medicare or a personal blue cross policy?

What do you consider life changing money

@Ed Haywood started at 16 with $50/month in a mutual fund. 401k from 25 forward hitting the IRS maximum since 30. My math says I need $7mm to maintain this income but I'm not assuming 10.7%. I agree with everything you typed. I am just not confident I can walk away.

What do you consider life changing money

@Ed Haywood unless you own a business to sell for a multiple of earnings, how do you get there? At, say, 5% return, it takes a meaningful chunk to replace my income (without touching principal). How do I get the time back? (Seriously seeking wiser input). I feel like I only work. No time for me.

PA 28 Down in Kentucky, Fatalities

@BMan where are you training. I agree with much of the above. You can totally 100% say no. 18 years old and relatively low hours - he likely was trusting the CFI and had no idea how completely unqualified and terrible the CFI was.

PA 28 Down in Kentucky, Fatalities

Wow. Sick to my stomach after watching the video. I know a CFI like that but he wouldn't risk his life. Just berate you.
