This week's lesson will be on the ground - a lesson in ADM

@Gilbert Buettner i started training when I was 17. Working part-time to pay for it. The 21-25 year old CFIs were "old working guys." I thought they had everything figured out. We're adults. Like my parents. . . I had no concept of them needing money/not getting paid until my dad...

This week's lesson will be on the ground - a lesson in ADM

Make sure your cardio / neurologist know you ceased the blood thinners. Good choice not to fly. So much to learn about the plane on the ground, and good on you for taking ground (vs canceling altogether). When I was younger I never considered the impact to the CFI of me canceling. I just...

    Advice for loooooong cross-country

@AvNavCom - curiosity / jealousy question. Are you flying alone? This sounds epic! 15 hrs in the next month and then this trip . . . I'm guessing your kids are grown or I'm so doing it wrong. I'm envious of your ability to make time for this adventure.

    Monday only - worth it?

@KaiGywer and everyone - sacrilegious question. What do you do there? I can't buy a plane. I'm in a club and wouldn't really buy avionics or anything. Air show - I get. I've been once. Loved the air show and walking around warbirds. Is that what you do? What do folks do there all week?

"He was such a good pilot..."

@Sierra_Hotel you teach students to reach in and pull on the magnetos and spark plug wires? @Chip Sylverne I’ve never seen anyone do that in Cherokee’s, warriors or Cessnas. Embarrassed to say I’m not sure I could find the magnetos. But I do pretty much do my pre flight exactly as taught. 30...

    MOUNJARO FOR WEIGHT LOSS

What are the side effects to the liver or other organs of this or Ozembic? Extreme excess skin but what about life altering stuff?

    ORD remains the worst

Mrs310 pilot was always bonus content on an already fun vlog. Bummed they sold their plane. Local guy living the dream I can't see pulling off. Ehhhh. C90 controllers have never been rude to me and helped many times (and I've heard them help 2 lost pilots, 1 was definitely a student). I've...

    ORD remains the worst

@BrianR what type of plane were you flying and what time of day? Just curious.

    Lost proficiency - Gained weight

@sarangan low carb like what? What do you eat during an average workday? @Shurdak welcome back! Get current and rent a plane a bit. Are you in the states or still in Columbia?

    Avgas Prices Now?

Current home base 06C is charging $6.35/gallon while PWK (Corp reliever nearby) charges over $8 and 3CK about 10 min by air charges $5.60. Monroe WI (KEFT) near Janesville shows $5.12. I guess we've got it pretty good near Chicago/Rockford/Milwaukee.

    Spirit Stops Hiring

I thought FedEx / UPS were the holy grail? More set schedules similar pay and no passengers? I thought folks wanted to get there. Why would they go to PSA enroute to AAL? Honest question from a guy who missed the dream.

For Sale BEWARE - Scammed by "davclarkeee"

@TCABM what is the proof of life rule? How do you confirm? I bought a light speed headset off a FB group last year. Seemed a little fishy. It was Greg Brown's Student network group. I sent him a note and asked if he knew the person. Greg Brown called me! I knew his voice from his podcast...

    I’m calling the peak

So beech, Cessna and Mooney are maybe peaking now? Cirrus and piper already declining? Is that because of repacking chutes and the wing spar? Why did those start to come down sooner?

    Van’s Aircraft Facing Challenges

Vans almost certainly has bank or institutional financing. Once you trip a debt covenant (like total leverage (debt/ebitda), fixed charge coverage (ebitda-capex / princ + int + taxes + distributions)) or any other number of covenants, they (the bank/lender) force a consultant in. Secured...

    MVFR . . .

@luvflyin based on a Chicago Tribune article I just found they added a GPS 36 approach in late 1998/1999. No approaches prior to that.

    @Jim_R I'm thinking maybe sarcasm?

    MVFR . . .

All right. Playing around on Foreflught (I'm a novice) looks like if I'm rolling around at 1,500 MSL (700 agl) there's 1 tower along the route at 1,000 msl. TPA at 06C is 1,600. If good visibility and I really focused on learning those landmarks down low, I guess 1,500 could work. Seems...

    MVFR . . .

@luvflyin its Schaumburg / 06C. I think the suggestion was, shoot an approach to DPA to get below. Then if not VFR, but good vis, try SVFR to cancel the IFR flight plan and legally exit the Delta airspace. It's 8 miles DPA to 06C. Once I exit the Delta, though, is it legal is what I'm...

    MVFR . . .

@Htaylor @iamtheari its class E there 700 agl and up. Playing along, E is 3 miles + 1 (above) 5 (below) 2 (horizontal) if I understand the question. But I'd have to be 1,000 feet above structures and 500 below the clouds, so aren't I right I need ceilings 1,500+ to be legal? Below 700 ...

    MVFR . . .

Been discussing IR training based at an airport with no approaches. One suggestion was fly the approach at nearby delta KDPA breakout and get SVFR back to home drone. I noticed today that KDPA was reporting MVFR. 10SM BKN 013 BKN 037 OVC somewhere higher. But DPA is in congested airspace...
