Identify Ground Facility on Subsequent Calls?

I've been gone a couple of years. Spent a lot of years there and got to work with some of the most capable controllers in the NAS. I was proud when I got there and proud when I left. Glad you made it through your emergency ok (I presume since you can type)!

What is going on here (Live ATC New York weird exchange)

It may not be as black and white as it seems. I've seen many instances where we held arrivals to ATL & CLT when the aircraft were not CAT II or CAT III equipped. Neither A80 nor CLT TRACON have the airspace to hold a bunch of aircraft that go missed, so they have the ARTCC hold the aircraft...

Identify Ground Facility on Subsequent Calls?

Once communication is established you can leave off the location by the book. As far as I'm concerned, you could call me Atlanta, or center, or just use your callsign and say what you want to say. Just don't call me approach.:D

    ATC loopholes

We had a letter of agreement with A80 (Atlanta TRACON) that would allow overflights on V18 or V97 at a specific altitude. Things have changed (V18 has been eliminated due to MON). Perhaps C90 has a set of routes that are similar. If you haven't already, you may want to call the facility and ask.

A New Meaning To Sticker Shock

Here's a list from last August of the top 20 most expensive cars sold at auction. This MB is almost $100m more than the #1 car on this list. If you hate Ferraris, don't click here.

A New Meaning To Sticker Shock

I think if I had a car worth $143m I would not have people climbing in and out of it.

Cheapest jet that isn't a sonex

Saw a civilian A37 at KTYS (although I think it's been since lost in an accident). Have the T37s ever been offered for sale?

Video and Discussion - Burley, ID accident. Was "Gryder"

From one of the articles on the Kythrynsreport.com website , her dad says: He says Brittney flew to this airport all the time and was well aware of any obstacles. “There’s a 60-foot chimney sticking out of the top of the food processing plant — no lights on it, dead center — straight across...

Video and Discussion - Burley, ID accident. Was "Gryder"

He repeatedly referred to an Advisory Circular and said the approach was not in compliance with the AC. He may have said the approach was illegal but I'm not sure and I'm not going to watch it again. Is an AC regulatory?

    Popup or Call FSS?

The PBN codes will help with automation, but are not necessary for a flight plan in ERAM. /G (or /whatever) is just fine. I can't speak for terminal, but the enroute controller will see /G unless he or she pulls up a template that shows your PBN values.

    Theaters

We live in a small town that still had the classic downtown movie theater. The theater made it through the worst of the COVID shutdowns, but unfortunately closed this past winter. :(

Does ATC care if you're circling at an uncontrolled field?

It was definitely a change. I just checked with a buddy of mine and successive visual approaches (first one reports the airport in sight, second reports the airport or the proceeding aircraft) to a non-towered airport are still prohibited.

Does ATC care if you're circling at an uncontrolled field?

I've done it myself plenty of times. Unless they rolled back the prohibition, there was no exception allowed because you were talking to the aircraft.

Does ATC care if you're circling at an uncontrolled field?

I do not see how the controller could clear a successive IFR arrival without a cancellation or downtime. A subsequent instrument approach would certainly conflict with the first arrival. A visual approach wouldn't work either. Several years ago, the FAA disallowed successive (follow the leader)...

Does ATC care if you're circling at an uncontrolled field?

It sounds like this pilot was on an instrument approach (RNAV (GPS) Y RWY 08) and because of windshear elected to go around and stay in the traffic pattern instead of executing the published missed approach. Is that correct?
