    N. Las Vegas Mid-air

IMHO, aviation is a business sector that is (overall) very dependent on technology, but the hardest to upgrade. I tend to think of aviation from a US-centric viewpoint, but optimally technological upgrades should, at least, be somewhat harmonized across the globe. Airlines don't want to pay for...

    Cable Internet

I have Ooma as well. $99 for the box (2 years ago) and $6/month afterward. The quality has been great. We have all of our networking in the basement and occasionally have to reset the system. I just bought a remote control switch with two key fobs that we keep upstairs. It plugs into the UPS...

    What is "participating VFR" ?

Not my question, but I'll chip in: it depends. If there is a VFR aircraft I'm not talking to that has been flying along at 7500, I think it is safe to descend the IFR aircraft to 8000 and issue traffic. If the VFR appears to be in a climb where altitude separation may not be feasible, I'd...

    What is "participating VFR" ?

The Letter to Airmen for practice instrument approaches at KHKY states: The Air Traffic Controller's responsibility to provide standard IFR separation for participating VFR aircraft begins at the point...

Fibbed to ATC. Got Caught. Was given number to call

If you call first, you'll be able to cover the salient points that AT might be reporting to FSDO. Immunity from certificate action (if applicable) comes from a timely NASA report. I've advised many pilots what issue had to be reported to FSDO and followed up with with the suggestion to file a...

Fibbed to ATC. Got Caught. Was given number to call

I really can't see any downside to calling, or filing a NASA report.

Fibbed to ATC. Got Caught. Was given number to call

It doesn't have to be a PD for Air Traffic to kick something over to FSDO. if AT has a concern about a pilot, sometimes that phone call can get things squared away. If not, or the pilot never calls, it likely will not just go away. File a NASA report regardless.

    Changing an IFR plan

Several years ago they removed the requirement to ask GA why they were changing destination unless the controller thought something was suspicious. If the controller asks now it is just out of habit.

ATC Recording - Johnstown Approach 121.2

If you're an individual (vs a commercial outfit) there are some fee waivers for FOIA requests (commercial businesses have to pay for everything). Since this is an audio file, the years-old wording (below) doesn't exactly fit, but in your request you can put that you are not willing to exceed...

    You gotta be s****ing me.

Saw part of a YT video on this case. The suit was filed in Missouri. The insurer decided that the damage is not covered (she offered a $1m settlement, the policy limits, and the insurer turned it down). Missouri then offers two tracks: arbitration and court. Both parties agreed to arbitration...
