What size expenses await the person that buys this? (Curious, not trolling)

I don’t think it happens with prop planes so much since their value generally doubled during the Covid. With some really small planes like old Cherokees and 150’s the value might not be there, but I don’t envision many getting scrapped. We have several Citatations on the field, but none older...

What size expenses await the person that buys this? (Curious, not trolling)

My guess about that is that in its younger years it was on an engine plan and they got replaced with different engines along the way.

It’s indicating 1900 until overhaul for both sides, but they have probably both been overhauled twice or maybe three times. That means the next overhaul will be either super expensive or throwing away and starting with new engines. If it has been flogged, then that will almost certainly be the...

    Starting round engines

The first thing on the list for us is pulling them through two full revolutions by hand. We have discovered liquid lock a few times. I sure wouldn’t want to discover it with the starter even without fuel or ignition. It’s a tough job with the bombers, but it seems to be a worthwhile precaution.

    "Target for Today"

That’s the second time I’ve read about a pilot headed across the Atlantic in a four engine bomber with 40 hours total time. Might be the same pilot that I read about. I suppose almost anything is possible with military field expediency, but I find it EXTREMELY difficult to believe. 40 hours...

    "Target for Today"

I too have been reading and viewing a lot of material on the 8th Air Force and the B17. The museum behind my hangar where I volunteer has a B17 going through Major work and come back in the spring so I’ve had a while to educate myself. Above all, I have learned so much more about the stark...

Best plane for first time plane owner?

“We're currently looking at C182s, 172s, and Grumman Tigers. We're trying to keep insurance and maintenance costs relatively low, so we're not really looking at anything with a retractable gear right now.” If all you’re worried about is retractible gear, almost all Mooney M20 C’s have manual...

Yeah, a mistake like the guy 3 posts above that quoted a post and then didn’t respond.

Best plane for first time plane owner?

I hear ya’! I am 75, but climbing in and out of most any plane in which I will be at, or in reach of, the controls is well worth the effort. The most difficult entry is climbing into the right seat of a Citation, but it’s well worth it. Getting in the Mooney or the 140 isn’t easy either, but...

Best plane for first time plane owner?

Lay down? Have you ever been in a Mooney? You won’t be laying down in mine. I don’t feel like I’m laying down in either of those planes, but a 172 feels like sitting on a bar stool with your feet directly below and the panel at the far end of a tunnel in front of you. Regardless of how...

Best plane for first time plane owner?

They don’t land the same as a 172, but they are as easy to learn to land as is a 172. I say that but I flew a Mooney long before ever flying a 172. I don’t see one as more difficult than the other. Just stabilize your approach speed and keep it off until it settles onto the runway.

Best plane for first time plane owner?

Sorry for the delay. I’ve been in Canada goose hunting and out of touch with the world. Too much? I bought my first Mooney when I was slightly over 100 hours total time. My first was a short body C model. My transition training was one day. Most of my time up to that point was tailwheel...

    Altitudes: GPS vs Pressure

Makes no difference which is more accurate. After decades of barometric pressure use, I think it’s safe to say that it has proven adequate. The main thing is consistency between aircraft and that is being xpaccomplished.

First plane? Archer, Arrow, etc. any recommendations

$100,000 will buy a nice, short body Mooney which would bring many improvements over an Arrow. Examples are; steel safety cage around the cabin, more speed and efficiency, simplistic gear and flap mechanisms, incredible structural strength, laminar flow wing……

How much ethanol is too much

You are correct Mikey. Maybe it’s methanol that has more.

How much ethanol is too much

I also could be wrong, but if so, why do some racers bother with running ethanol rather than gasoline?

How much ethanol is too much

Of course it went farther on 100% alcohol because there is more energy per volume in ethanol than in gasoline. I agree on that and I can see it being safe if properly handled. Where I disagree with you is your proposal to close the oil fields and burn strictly alcohol. Wouldn’t you agree that...
