Which airplanes are you most excited about potentially being available in US under MOSAIC / mLSA rules?

Which ones of those are certified and which ones are kit/experimental?

    Headset Evaluation

Passive headset? When I started flying, a passive headset would have been a wonderful luxury. We used a microphone and a speaker. It’s one reason I can now barely hear thunder. Of course that cooling unit on the radar I worked on in the Army, shooting, loud rock music in my youth, and other...

    Headset Evaluation

If you’re on a budget, take a Dave Clark 13.2 basic headset and spend an hour and a little money for an ANR conversion kit. I’ve been using one for probably five years or so and it works great. When I’m with friends or family in their planes using a Bose, Lightspeed, etc., the only difference...

    Preview of things to come.....

Maybe I’m not taking your meaning, but it sounds as if you believe in the “everyone gets a trophy” mantra.

    Preview of things to come.....

Hey! Those climate controlled rooms can easily get a few degrees too cold or too hot! Besides, on a military base, a flight suit looks really cool when you are seen with it on at the commissary. Seriously though, I have respect for the good drone pilots and the award in the original post is...

    April solar eclipse

The hoopla in the community leading up to the eclipse was insane. We were in the totality path. $100 hotel rooms went for $600 and there were zero vacancies. It was being said that our town of 15,000 would swell to 45,000 and I was made fun of because I openly stated that it couldn’t even get...

Road Bump in Buying a Plane - No Place to Put It

If it’s not flown in six months, it’s not an active aircraft. Make room for those who fly. Let storage take place somewhere other than our airports where those who actively fly need hangar space. Six months is the number at our airport, but maybe that number is different, but there DEFINITELY...

Road Bump in Buying a Plane - No Place to Put It

Our airport manager won’t put up with it. He knows very well what is in those hangars and what is flown. At about six months of non activity he starts notifying them. At a year, they’re gone. I’ve seen him do it more than once. I love my airport.

Road Bump in Buying a Plane - No Place to Put It

I believe that having non aviation items in the hangar is fine as long as there are airworthy aircraft that are flown and purchasing fuel in there too.

Road Bump in Buying a Plane - No Place to Put It

I do believe that FINAL assembly would be legitimate in an airport hangar. That would be a short amount of time and most people wouldn’t have space to put the wings on in their garage or personal shop. Even if they did, how will they transfer it to the airport?

Road Bump in Buying a Plane - No Place to Put It

During the assembly phase, it is the same as having a hangar without owning an airplane. The hangars are there for operation of aircraft, not storage or assembly of anything. After you get it together and if it flies, that is when it needs to be in a hangar with access to fuel and a runway.

    Rotax clone from China?

I personally don’t feel completely comfortable behind any Rotax, so I DURN SURE can’t be comfortable behind a Chinese clone. Before you start flaming me and quoting all the wonderful experiences with Rotax engines, I completely respect your opinions and rights, just as I feel that I have a...

Road Bump in Buying a Plane - No Place to Put It

Welcome to GA. Finding a hangar is usually more challenging than finding a plane. I was on one hangar list for 12 years. Fortunately, I had gotten a few hangars before then. It takes lots of time and patience most any where to come up with any hangar at all, much less for one at a reasonable...

    Eclipse jet

A friend got one about nine months ago. We sat in it for about an hour with an APU while he showed me the panel. Very nice aircraft and easy to fly he told me. I haven’t been in the air in it. It works well for him when he has a light load for moderate distances. He had a Citation Encore...

    Dangerous request from airport manager?

I’m curious. Who was there first, the airport or the complaining people who live around the airport? I’ve hangared at four different airports over the years. Only one of them had a pilot as an airport manager and it is BY FAR, the best airport of the four. Funny how it works that way.

    This flying seems awfully expensive...

To the OP, only you know whether or not it’s worth it for you. I don’t dare add up all my expenses and divide by the flight hours I get. My flight cost per hour would be an incredibly high number. Regardless, as long as I’m not having to borrow any money to support it and I can still get a...
