If you had 3 months to travel in your plane, where would you go?

Yep. That's what I would do. Low and slow within a mile of the border/coastline and then cruise around the Southwest looking for the best barbecue/Mexican food near an airport.

    Goldwing vs. Deer

Wow. That could have gone so much worse. Kudos for keeping the ship upright and remaining cool. That replacement Wing is a beautiful thing and the proper color!

    <na> golden years plan

You remember that guy who attached rocket motors to his car and painted a hill with his charred remains? Yeah, that seems like an economical and uncomplicated way to go...

    SPAM's 86th birthday

What a coincidence. I had a Spam and egg on toast sandwich last night. Didn't realize it was a commemorative occasion.

    Callout Fee

KILE is my home airport and I am not surprised. I have never attempted to get fuel there and parked my airplane at a different airport farther away from my home just to avoid those people. When I first bought my itty bitty airplane, I went to what is left of the airport office and spoke to the...

    4 July 2023 - Grumman AA5 Tiger HSV / HUA - Huntsville AL (successfull engine-out landing)

I work at Redstone Arsenal and I am familiar with that area. He landed on the access road to the West Range complex on the Redstone reservation. That's a range where they test aerial rockets and MANPADS shoulder fired missiles..

[NA] MS: to continue, you need to do something that is impossible.

Windows can easily clutter up a drive volume with useless files that are stored in several locations. Under the Environment Variables, I aways set the temp files to go to a single location: C:\temp. There are thousands of update files stored in hidden directories that can be deleted. There...

Looking for advice- Military exploring PPL

During a 2 on 2 match, we had a midair collision that resulted in a loud clunking noise and two sore heads. Nobody was seriously injured, but we laughed so hard we had to suspend play for a while.

Looking for advice- Military exploring PPL

We played Crud until our fingers were bruised and even had league play with teams from the various aviation units from our base in Korea. The Officer's Club went away after that tour. We had fun while it lasted, I guess. Those days are gone...

What temperature do you like your bedroom?

My 2400 sq. ft. house has a single air handler with a modern (2017) HVAC system. My thermostat is set for: Heat comes on at 75F and AC comes on at 78. I am comfortable night and day and my electric bill never exceeds $200.

(NA) They're listening and I don't like it

I gave up trying to hide my personal information long ago. I've been in every security breach except all those slimy dating apps. Every kid in China has my security clearance info on their fake Disney lunchbox. I use a Pinephone.

Looking for advice- Military exploring PPL

GI Bill funding is for advanced certificates and ratings beyond the Private Certificate. If you can find a school program that includes primary training, that would be great, but fitting in the time while on Active Duty might be a stretch.

    Anyone buying a Rivian?

The EV F-150 is not a Lightning. The Lightning was the Ford SVO super fast hotrod truck. It is a standard looking F-150 with the EV mods to make it look fancy. They picked the Lightning name because it evokes electricity and because they already own the copyright, just like the Maverick is...

The Ted Race Team: Because Racecar

Watching those videos makes me think back to the days when I autocrossed Fiats and Alfas and kicked butt on all those Datsun 510 and RX3 posers. Driving a slow car fast in the first two gears was more fun and educational than just beating up on the competition. Smoothness was the key to...

    IFR in C152 Approach Speeds

I have told this story before, but when my flying club bought the 152, we ferried it from another state, so the local controllers were not familiar with the tail number. When I flew the first ILS into the big airport, the controller asked me if I could maintain speed on the approach and I...

MD-500 helicopter, how rich do you need to be?

Here's the deal: The recurring cost of insurance will make the initial purchase price seem insignificant. You will need an experienced pilot with tens of thousands of rotary wing hours with you to make it worthwhile. I hereby volunteer for that position...

    IFR in C152 Approach Speeds

When I was instructing in a brand new 1978 C-152, the thing I appreciated most was the propeller was pitched such that I could keep cruise power in during instrument approaches and keep my speed up with all the other aircraft into some busy airports. The transition to visual at DH would be to...
