    Another night currency question

Here's another currency problem that we came upon when I was flying in the Guard. It was more than just hangar flying, it was an actual real world scenario that I was eventually overruled on. It gets a little in the weeds, but I'm going to try to convey as simple as I can. It deals with touch...

    Another night currency question

The differences caught us once though. A couple years ago, I was landing in Helsinki early one morning and we were ramp checked by the Finnish authorities. The inspector was a really good guy, did all his flight training in Florida, then went back to Finland and got hired by their version of...

    Another night currency question

I agree. I fly all over the world and I do not know (nor do I care) what all those various countries’ currency regulations are.

    ILS only Approach?

    Thanks!

    ILS only Approach?

Yeah. I hadn’t thought about it, but yeah, a CAT I ILS that only lists ILS on the plate.

    ILS only Approach?

Does anyone know of any IAPs in the US that are labeled ILS only (not “ILS or LOC”)?

I’d start here, and it should answer most of your questions. https://www.faasafety.gov/gslac/ALC/course_content.aspx?cID=47&sID=279

    London/Paris Vacation, must see places?(NA)

These are 2 of my favorite cities in the world. You'll have a great time if you follow @CJones advise about taking the time. Obviously, since it's your first time there, you need to do the tourist things, but definitely take time to live like a local Londoner/Parisian. Spend time at a pub just...

United Airlines dives to 700ft above the ocean

This doesn’t sound like it was written by an airline pilot.

    Interesting ChatGPT usage examples

Me Write an argument between two pilots on an aviation message board where pilot 1 (pick a clever and funny aviation related username) argues with pilot 2 (pick a second clever and funny aviation related username) about whether their respective aircraft (a Mooney M20J and a Beechcraft Bonanza)...

    Austin International Airport: near disaster

Not really. So, the HUD is only on the Captain's side (although they say they are going to install repeaters for the FO). And on a CAT III, there's no requirement to even see to land, so the HUD is irrelevant anyhow. The FO will be looking inside to ensure that the plane tracks the ILS...

    Austin International Airport: near disaster

One thing that isn’t being talked about (because it’s relativity inside knowledge) is that most of FedEx’s fleet (except for the Airbus) have HUDs installed. And in those HUDs, they have EVAS (Enhanced Vision Assurance System) which is basically an infrared camera that can be used to see through...

    Austin International Airport: near disaster

You’re absolutely right. I mistyped. 10 or less for EAI on, 3 or less for the run up (in the current plane). Thanks for pointing that out. I think I saw it was -1 there, so I’m sure they were having to do a run up.

    Austin International Airport: near disaster

I’d like to know how long it took SWA to roll after getting takeoff clearance. With that weather they would most certainly had to have done an anti-ice engine run up (10° or less and less than 1 mile visibility). I’ve never flown the 737, but I’m sure it’s like other large airplanes where that’s...

    Austin International Airport: near disaster

Respectfully disagree. Three miles is the minimum on a nice VFR day. With weather like this, everything slows down. Taxi speeds are slower, the turn to line up is slower. It won’t be SWA standard timing. I don’t know what the temperature was, but with that vis and the cold snap Texas has been...

anyone heard of auction company Pro Market Connections?

Meh. It's a double plural. Much like fish/fish/fishes. Although it sounds weird, and we here typically don't use it, I could see a case for multiple aircraft of different variety using the double plural "aircrafts."

Is a digital (PDF) version of POH good enough?

Thanks for the correction. I wasn't quite sure of the date, and was honestly too lazy to Google.

Is a digital (PDF) version of POH good enough?

I think after 1975 it has to be specific to your airplane.

    Tach and hobbs

My Hobbs is set up to start counting at 80 knots, which is basically rotate speed, so I guess it’s marking TIS. I was a little concerned that it was under-counting time, but after reading @Bell206 ’s post, I feel better that it’s probably a more accurate way to track time.
