    Annual Inspection vs. 100-Hour Inspection

You're right, and I didn't mean to start an argument about who is quoting who. But I still don't understand how you can "know" what you know and still ask a question that shows you don't actually know.

I read the post very carefully.

    Annual Inspection vs. 100-Hour Inspection

Odd that, after 25 years as an airplane owner, and an experienced CFI that runs an online groundschool program, you didn't know that an annual counts as 100 hour inspection.

Tach to Hobbs conversion for logging

Why? Don't you have a watch? There are too many variables for a "multiplier" to be accurate, even for the same plane. Length of flight, cruise power setting, time spent taxiing, etc will all change it. It's silly.

    Grease on prop

A slow leak like that can probably go for awhile before it becomes serious. Don't ask me how I know.

How to make the best pilot possible?

Teach students how to keep the airplane perfectly straight during takeoff and landing and there will be no need for tailwheel time. It's way overfetishized. Can't say how much glider time will help since I've never flown a glider. I have flown with two pilots who started in gliders though, and...

How to make the best pilot possible?

Just one example, I've seen students get lost flying in a straight line over familiar terrain. Oh yeah a 400 hour YouTuber pilot did that too. Some just don't have the natural instinct pilots should have. It can be trained into them but it will take time, money, and an above average instructor.

And traumatize the child with an inevitable divorce. I can't believe people still think getting married because you "have to" is a good idea.

    Annual Inspection vs. 100-Hour Inspection

FSDO grounded my plane during my CFI checkride because the propeller wasn't annualed. This was before the LOI that expressly stated it didn't need a separate endorsement. They were total jerks about it to--"you want to be a CFI, you should have known this." The best part is they changed their...

91.3 emergency authority - "deviate from any rule OF THIS PART" - practical effects?

No...PIC being unconscious doesn't mean a passenger is promoted to PIC in violation of Part 61.

    Pittsburgh plane spotting.

I wouldn't bother. The place is almost a ghost town. You might see one plane every 20 minutes.

Fatal Crash at First Flight, 9/28

It's most likely pretty simple. Behind the power curve, power is applied without enough right rudder. The trees are pretty close to the runway.

Which datapoints are made up? https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/N1281F/history/20240928/2110Z/KMQI/KFFA/tracklog FA tells you when it's an estimated vs. actual position. And it matches the NTSB statement that they crashed adjacent to the runway. Not over the ocean/beach where the...

Fatal Crash at First Flight, 9/28

I haven't seen it reported, but suspect it to probably be on airport property, otherwise we might be hearing about ground injuries/damaged houses.

Fatal Crash at First Flight, 9/28

Yeah, the ADS-B track doesn't look like a base-to-final turn accident. Could have been a crash on a possible second go-around (we've seen that before) or maybe a stall on final. Imagine the pilot is flustered by an awkward pattern, behind the airplane, can't seem correct for wind, and failed...

    TAF Confusion

There's no gap. The FM ("FroM") line is valid until the next FM line (or, sometimes a BECMG line). The TEMPO ("TEMPOrary") line is temporary. Notice it's incomplete -- there's no wind or visibility. At 06:00Z the line "FM300300 05004KT P6SM VCSH SCT008 OVC015" is still in effect.
