Do I need insurance if I'm getting dual given?

You are probably right, but most check outs are one flight and then the situation changes.

Do I need insurance if I'm getting dual given?

Only if you crash... Many/most rental places have coverage only for themselves. Their insurance company will often go after the pilot. You need to ask.

Why do CFIs discourage midfield crosswind?

I have been nearly hit before by a plane descending down on me on downwind. Fortunately my passenger (also a pilot) saw his shadow and we were able to take evasive action (he came within 5 feet of contact). We were talking, but he was not.

Why do CFIs discourage midfield crosswind?

Depends, if you have an RV, you could try an overhead break and roll out on downwind ;) Are you crossing at TPA or 500 feet above? I was taught 500 feet above, but subsequently advised that turbine traffic uses that altitude. Perhaps that is the reason?

How do you self-identify, meat edition

I am certainly not defending it. Personally, I am an omnivore, but not real great about eating veggies (maybe a salad with dinner or some green beans).

Who follows the Nicholas Cage method of choosing your meat? (Google it)

    [NA]Firewall services[NA]

Yes, it is the latter one I mentioned. Content filtering = web filtering (you block different types of sites, like porn or YouTube), but you need to turn it on. The anti malware stuff kicks if someone clicks on a bad link or something like that. It is actually a good idea to have this...

    [NA]Firewall services[NA]

Is the $650 just for annual support (phone support and hardware replacement) or are you subscribing to any add-on services, such as malware protection or web filtering? PCI compliance can be a pain and a bit arbitrary (when it comes to small business compliance). I know for some hospitality...

Wondering why airliners don’t use cameras

You’re wrong. In most corporate offices security cameras are standard and they record 24x7. They often are only reviewed if there is an incident, but they are turned on. Web filtering / history / recording is also standard practice (it’s about liability). I install and support these systems...

Rusty pilot looking for affordable way to get back into flying

Davis has the cheapest rental rates in the area (EDU). Flying isn't cheap, for sure. There aren't too many clubs around here. There is one at Lincoln, but it needs a buy in (equity) and there used to be one out of Davis.

    3 year old router question

Microtik has some good stuff. They developed RouterOS, which they give away for free with the devices and is pretty powerful, featurewise. https://mikrotik.com/products

    3 year old router question

The Pro LR and Lite will do single hop from a wired AP. The do sell an M unit (mesh) that is designed for multiple hops. I have used the M in outdoor scenarios and they work well.

    3 year old router question

Your AP is dual band. It is worth considering shutting off 2.4 GHz. While 2.4 does have better range and penetration, 5 GHz has much greater bandwidth and channel range. In commercial applications, this is our go to. We will deploy more APs, but limit to 5 GHz if possible. Again, as mentioned...

    3 year old router question

You can do that, but with the current wireless mesh offerings like Eero and Orbi, it isn’t necessary. No need t wire every AP.

    This note is legal tender...

I would say the main reason a business doesn't want to deal with cash is employee theft. The next reason is becoming a target for robberies. I don't think it has anything to do with avoiding taxes. My fiance has a retail business and she does not like dealing with cash deposits and the risk of...

Untuckit..a blouse for men, change my mind

I am old enough (just barely) to have worn bell bottoms back in the 70's. My go to is still Levi's 501 jeans, though (or the 505 with a zipper). I still have to dress up occasionally for work (put on dress pants and tuck in my shirt), but not too often.

Untuckit..a blouse for men, change my mind

It's a shirt, unless you wear panties, then it can be a blouse. I often don't tuck in my dress shirts, if I am wearing them with jeans. I couldn't care less about the bottom being straight, though. Edit to fix typo

    E6B - Manual vs Electronic

If it is temporary, the mechanical works fine and is a lot cheaper, if you are just trying to get through a test. I honestly no longer have use for either of them.

Cant tell if good deal. 1st plane

I agree with above. You will need to budget for an engine, out of the gate and ASDB out.
