Tell me about life in Tucson and/or Reno

We are planning to relocate and are considering options. Two possible areas are Tucson and Reno. I have not spent much time in either location and am doing research to determine if one (or both) would be a good fit. Obviously there is heat and critters; and the taxes and costs have been...

    Am I being unreasonable?

As I wrote: TCABM and MauleSkinner posted useful insights. If you start a thread on the subject, I will add additional perspective.

    Am I being unreasonable?

Did your search turn up anything to suggest that thousands is not "legit?" I ask that rhetorically here, because these digressions from the thread's topic merit their own threads.

    Am I being unreasonable?

    Okay, NOW you're being unreasonable.

    Am I being unreasonable?

Well, I am no "respected aviator" by any stretch of the imagination. Nonetheless, I maintain that the best way to "approach it" is to have a conversation with the CFI. Every brief/debrief should be a two-way discussion. If the lesson was conducted as you described in your original post, it...

    Am I being unreasonable?

Princesspilot206, Point-by-point, here are some thoughts (since you asked). If you choose to read the following, please consider that I wasn't present and only have the information contained in your post (your side of the story) to go on. Taxi call: As others have pointed-out, making such...

    ...

Without knowing more about you and your CFIs other than what you've posted here, I wouldn't venture a recommendation. However, I do suggest that you take some time to sit down with each to discuss your personal learning needs, and perhaps suggest some ways that the instructor could better help...

Planes collide at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport

Indeed. It has been a problem in numerous evacuations. In one incident I know of, F/As were relieving passengers of their carry-ons as they reached the exit, until the mounting pile of rollaboards threatened to block the aisle.

Planes collide at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport

While the news is mostly focused on the spectacular images of the burning Airbus, this may be overlooked. The Coast Guard crew was conducting relief efforts for victims of the devastating earthquake that occurred just days prior. The death toll of that quake may exceed 200, and the deaths of...

Planes collide at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport

It will be some time before the investigations are complete and findings are released. As a basis for comparison, many airlines (including my own) train their cabin crew to autonomously conduct an evacuation under such circumstances. Yes, everyone onboard JL516 survived and we can be deeply...

Planes collide at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport

18 Minutes in a burning airplane is a very long time. I don't know about JCAB but FAR requires carriers to demonstrate a full evac in 90 seconds or less. In this accident only three slides were usable so one might expect the required time to be significantly longer--maybe 4 minutes. Perhaps...

Planes collide at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport

What, they were trying to finish the movie?

Planes collide at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport

Video of the cabin as the airplane slid to a stop was fascinating. Pax initially seemed surprisingly calm, some capturing the event on their phones, but their anxiety rapidly grew with a big orange fireball clearly visible through the windows and the cabin filling with smoke. Yet, they...

    C441 real world range

Good call--I had forgotten about the Merlin. I think the IIIB advertised a still-air IFR range of about 2400NM. I'm guessing that in order to achieve the advertised range it would be necessary to climb into RSVM airspace. With a headwind of 50+, even it would fall short.

    C441 real world range

The Conquest II won't do it. If I presume correctly, you are planning to operate single-pilot. You state that the 441 fits the bill in terms of cost, so it seems that your budget is limited to the acquisition and operating costs of a decades-old turboprop. I'm certainly not an expert, but I...

    What Are You Reading?

James Salter, Burning the Days. Salter was one of the best American writers of the 20th Century. In his books The Hunters, Cassada, and Gods of Tin, you will find some of the finest prose ever devoted to aviation and aerial warfare. While he worked constantly to improve his craft, my opinion...
