C-182 Power and Flap Setting For Standard 90kts Final (3deg/450fps) Approach

In case there are any reading this thread who are tempted to consider fly4usa's posts as expert advice, caveat emptor. In particular, I wish to call your attention to one statement that's just pure poppycock, blatant balderdash and noxious nonsense: We are NOT "expected to do at least 90kts"...

    Safety; rules vs freedoms

Thanks for posting this. I read the Wiki and would like to post the rest of his statement, because it reflects an attitude that we have all encountered, and perhaps sometimes espoused, regarding our aviation escapades: "You know, at some point, safety just is pure waste. I mean, if you just...

C-182 Power and Flap Setting For Standard 90kts Final (3deg/450fps) Approach

Just a casual observation, but I couldn't help but notice that you have an impressive list of tickets and ratings appended prominently to the bottom of your original post. It seems curious that someone with so much experience and knowledge couldn't figure this one out for him/herself on the...

Talk Me Out of a Cirrus

Congratulations! Despite my ambivalence to its handling qualities, the Seneca is a spacious and capable light twin. If your new plane was well-maintained, it will be a good experience. I hope your training goes well. The second engine, turbocharging, and FIKI open up an entirely new range of...

    Aviation Etiquette

To me, they are different. Your #3 concerns propwash/jetblast. That’s a really important consideration. My #10 is more concerned with the nuisances of noise and exhaust fumes, and the potential for a person or pet to tangle with a propeller. You’ll have a lot of material to sift through...

    Aviation Etiquette

Great list! I added a couple in blue. 1) If you use a courtesy car, put some gas in it... Especially if you haven't purchased anything else there. 2) (from the other thread) Always move your airplane away from the self serve pumps as soon as you're done fueling. While you're at it, help the...

Forward Slips with Flaps on a Practical Test

Wow--where's the OFF switch on this thing? I know I shouldn't do this, but... We teach students how, and when, to use slips because they are (at least in light aircraft) a useful maneuver that also improves stick-&-rudder skills. And because many light aircraft (especially gliders) don't have...

Forward Slips with Flaps on a Practical Test

At this point--almost 100 posts deep--those who get it, get it. Those who don't, don't.

Forward Slips with Flaps on a Practical Test

I think that's the best way to prepare your students for the ride. The thread drove off into the weeds, what with the bickering over the definitions of words etc. My fault, so please let me restate my position in a way that might be more accurate, succinct, and meaningful: Here's the way I...

    Self serve fuel pump etiquette

I don't. I do. I have. 'Nuff said, for the purposes of this thread.

That was deliberate. Glad you noticed.

    Self serve fuel pump etiquette

I guess I just lack the necessary ambition.

    Self serve fuel pump etiquette

We live in a time in which the elements of language are increasingly deconstructed, repurposed, and repackaged for political and ideological ends. First and third-world are good examples. First-world, properly understood, is a geopolitical term that referred to NATO allies during the Cold War...

Forward Slips with Flaps on a Practical Test

Why, yes I did read that post, which is I why I characterized it as being "maybe the best." I had previously read Thompson's account on a different forum. Just to be clear, I am not struggling with any questions here, Charlie. But thanks just the same.

Neither could Inspector Callahan. You could work it in as an expository element in your upcoming sequel.

Certification limitation; see TCDS Certification limitation, related to definition of Va; see TCDS Not found in TCDS Previously discussed Slips with flaps extended are not prohibited under TC issuance. Ask Cessna. And hey, while you have them on the line, see if you can impress upon them...

Forward Slips with Flaps on a Practical Test

Yes, for at least four decades. Maybe the best, on this forum, can be found in a 2015 post by the late Pilawt. That would be not operating.

Forward Slips with Flaps on a Practical Test

There are many who are more knowledgeable that I regarding these matters, but I propose to you the following: The POH, in and of itself, cannot prohibit anything. Limitations and prohibitions are established as a condition of type certification, by the FAA or other certification authority, and...

I predict that those guys know exactly what they are doing.

    Self serve fuel pump etiquette

Etiquette, along with airmanship, has been in steady decline for quite a while. Both are dearly missed. Aviation Etiquette (not just at the gas pump) is worthy of a sticky thread. Simple respect, courtesy, and consideration for others should be part of every student's training.
