    Continental A75 reassembly/overhaul....

Last one I did was years ago and took forever to do. Lots of junk parts out there. Owner said it was for grandkids. He was right!!

Stuck- REALLY Stuck Valves - O-200

That does make sense. And as the clearance increases less heat is conducted from the Stem. I doubt if it can be determined what the clearance WAS in this case. Why 2 at the same time? Who knows? When 100 LL initially replaced 80/87 it was the Intake Valves that were the problem. Mo-Gas...

Nose wheel tire flat - unclear why

MANY Years ago Cessna was using tubeless tires on some models. These were inflated through the sidewall with a Pin like a football. At times someone would use a tubeless tire and put a tube in it. Invariably; there would be an attempt to fill the tire through the sidewall. Oops!

Nose wheel tire flat - unclear why

You may have picked up or a stone or something during install. Tube and tire MUST be checked. A clean bench helps!

Stuck- REALLY Stuck Valves - O-200

Since these cylinders were purchased from TCM it would seem they would be in spec per that Chart. What does your contact recommend? We may have input when jugs are being worked on. I’ve also heard too loose allows carbon buildup and sticking. Some folks on another forum said they had the...

Stuck- REALLY Stuck Valves - O-200

Thanks for the replies. Owner is checking Flightaware for flight profile and track. If mixture was leaned at at altitude followed by a landing the engine would likely lose power. If a couple touch and goes with full power and leaned could heat things up. Dan; any idea of how long TCM has...

Stuck- REALLY Stuck Valves - O-200

Good points. Not sure I understand “ how many hours” He flew it about 2 hours and was up to 5000 feet and next time he went to fly they were STUCK.. No flights in between. It was filled with 100 LL that was available so no incentive to use other fuel. He is planning on dumping fuel just...

Stuck- REALLY Stuck Valves - O-200

A bud has an O-200 with about 300 hrs and 6 years on new TCM cylinder assys. It was running fine until he loaned it to someone. The next attempt to fly revealed it had zero compression and 2 stuck Exhaust valves. Even with cylinders removed they won’t budge. Worst I’ve seen since the days...

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

I’m not faulting you on this at all but I have found not all mfg instructions are correct. 2 areas of concern are; 1. Fasteners in tension are torque critical. With self locking nuts Running or Friction Torque is a factor. My guess is many were field replaced w/o this...

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

Torque Procedure? IIRC Piper specifies an EC only if the bolt is damaged. True? SB 1375A is less than 2 years old and is on rev 4. It’s not my intention to be argumentative on this but Piper , Boeing and others do not instill the same degree of confidence as was in the past. I have...

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

Using Applied Torque = Friction ( Running) Torque + Desired torque Shimming does make sense but looks like quite a task. So is Piper saying that if one bolt is slightly low on a torque check that it is considered ( damaged ) and an EC is needed? Again; to me aircraft time is not...

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

Klaus. Any particular things to address the issues? Bell. I like to utilize resources when I can. To my knowledge Piper never stated the reason for the condition. As far as I’m concerned it’s not “ High Time” in some cases.

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

A broken bolt is obviously “damaged”. Initially my belief was a loose bolt was due to the nut backing off. The last few showed the nut has not moved via torque indicator. Does that mean the bolt is damaged? I’ve enlisted some aircraft metallurgy folks to assist with this. So far the one...

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

Thanks Bell. I’m pursuing this with several Non-Piper agencies. Previously I said that if I inspect 10 Cherokees there will be a loose bolt on 3 of them. That’s the first time around. Inspecting the same aircraft at their next scheduled inspections will yield similar results. Occurs...

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

Klaus may be onto something . The problem would be a lot of work to verify the need for a shim. Is a bolt that has torque indicator intact but is loose presumed to be stretched and is that the “damaged” Piper refers to? That would trigger an Eddy Current Inspection. This could be an annual...

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

Thanks Dom ; I’ll check out D. Some bolts are original and some were replaced. It would seem with the higher strength NAS bolts selling for S0.75 each that there would be more lucrative fish to fry. This condition has been found on numerous fixed gear Cherokees. I have considered measuring...

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

I’ve found a fair amount of Lower Landing Gear attach bolts that were loose , stretched or broken. SB 1375A addresses this but I don’t agree that Time Change is the answer. Current patient had a broken bolt previously. Had it analyzed and failure due to fretting. All bolts replaced with...

High CO in Cessna 150M Cabin

Most 150’s have 2 Intake Ports on the forward baffle. The one with the scoop is for Cabin Heat and the other for Carb Heat. The Carb Heat is “ sheltered” from impact ice and debris by the lower cowling. A few 150’s and Conti 172’s are equipped with the “ Winter Package” that provides...

    Inspecting aircraft parts

Discrepancy = Evidence of fuel leakage #3 cylinder Intake Port. Corrective Action= Evidence removed In some cases it is best to inspect an area before cleaning. It might be difficult at best to detect fuel, oil and exhaust leaks post cleaning. Mostly regarding engines.

High CO in Cessna 150M Cabin

A Pressure Test in place with a shop vac of leaf blower would have disclosed the crack even w/o removal. Quick and easy to check the whole system. My suggest is to do in September or October before heating season. The muffler should have the baffles checked sometime but that’s more...
