    Pulse oximeter

This thread spurred me to get an updated recording pulse oximeter, so I got a couple off Amazon to compare them. I compared my old oximeter (top) with the two new ones. Over 5-10 minutes, the numbers moved around a little but overall had these levels of variation. Quite distressing if I'm...

How to find a plane when away from home - e.g. KFKS

I've found it easiest to simply rent a C172 or similar with a local CFI from the same flight school. CFI likes it since s/he's getting paid but not really giving a lesson, I have a tour guide who helps me see the best local places and someone who knows the airspace, ATC, etc. Dramatically...

    Pulse oximeter

I have a several-year-old recording pulse oximeter. This is great because it can store several hours of pulse and O2 Saturation data. Unfortunately, it's old enough that it won't work with Windows 10 machines. I really like the ability to log the data - it was terrific for getting good baselines...

Look who the cat dragged in!

So, is there like a giant pile of nosewheels off in the corner, where they get discarded? And many more pictures, please!

    GRG55 : Gone West

Shocked and saddened to hear this news, and so sorry for Jennifer and all of his family and friends. While I only knew him from this forum, he was a great and positive asset here and will be very missed.

    [N/A] I've made a huge mistake

Not quite 135,000 Scoville units, but this morning I bought a fancy coffee called "Spicy Brown Cow" that was a mocha with cinnamon and cayenne pepper. Not crazy about the cinnamon, but the (even-for-me-modest) levels of cayenne did add a lot of depth and interest to the mocha.

    Crash landed on an island

So sorry to hear about this, Larry, but very very glad you and your travel companions are uninjured. Hope to see you flying again soon - in person or on video.

    Thinking About a DeLorean

Best re-engined DeLorean I ever saw, by far, was this one. Yes, that's a twin-turbo Lotus V8 in a DeLorean. Saw it in 2007 at the Lotus Owners' Group convention that my buddy and I crashed. I give massive props to the owner/builder - his incredible coolativity is shown by his vanity plate!

    The Mathematically Boring Engine

Only slightly off-topic, but if you like engine noise: The 1965 Honda Formula One car with 1.5liter V-12 engine!

    Workout Music

In keeping with the style of music you listed: Taj Mahal Tower of Power Average White Band KC and the Sunshine Band I lean towards more hard rock stuff, so my faves include more 70s classic rock with the right tempo for running footfalls. As Sac Arrow said, your listed groups are good stuff...

    (wx) So, Denver

A couple from downtown-ish Denver about 8pm on Sunday night. That highway in the first photo? Interstate 25 - it usually has a bit more traffic. Second photo is a popular on/off ramp for the highway. I just sat tight until this afternoon and everything was wide open and clear, except for the...

    (wx) So, Denver

I'm in a suburb of Denver between KBJC (Broomfield) and KEIK) Erie. Our snow was 36 hours late, and while I'm currently 20 miles south in Denver proper, it's been quite underwhelming here. Maybe one inch accumulation here, though the initial rain and rain/snow mix will make driving messy and...

Mike Collins - AOPA Technical Editor, pilot, photojournalist, and more

Like many, I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mike Collins, Technical Editor at AOPA, photojournalist, craft beer cognoscenti, and much more. Mike died of Covid-19 yesterday, after fewer than two weeks in intensive care. He was 59. POA members may know Mike from AOPA...

    Crazy FAA Employee Gets Probation

I'm delighted to learn about her losing retirement benefits. There are lots of stories of governmental employees (state, local, and federal) who get fired for various egregious acts. I always wonder about what happens when you fire a 26-year employee - seems like they'd just retire and live off...

    The used car market parallel

Massive thread hijack alert, but: Autonomous cars should be readily available within, say, ten years, so 2031. But last I read, the 'average age of a car on the road' is now eleven years. This means it might be 20 years after 2031, or 2051, for natural attrition to get the 'new autonomous cars'...

DME died - do NOT recommend GPS

What about TriCounty in Lafayette, on Gough Rd? It’s either tri-County Avionics or Instruments or Electronics, but I’ve heard good things about them in the past. They are not at an airport, but about 3-4 miles from Erie KEIK and across the street from one of the very best breweries in the...

    Sac's random observation thread

Let's focus on what really matters, people: I don't think they are triangular. Specifically, it looks like a Reuleaux triangle, as I think someone posted before (but I'll say it again, louder). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuleaux_triangle This is very similar to the shape of the rotor in a...

The Ted Race Team: Because Racecar

That factory carb is VERY complicated!! No, more than that. Not sure how available the manifold might be, but consider a more traditional four-barrel if the ruleset allows it. Also, there were mods possible for the factory carb that made it better for racing. Can't recall the specifics but such...
