    Help with airplane choice

Budget is obviously a factor, but the Glasair Sportsman is a nice option. Seats 4, good STOL, cruises at 150ish knots, and can be fitted with tundras (you'll obviously lose some of that 150KIAS). If you want to "go big or go home" there's a super sportsman on TaP right now.

The Pilots of America Unofficial Hall of Fame, Troll Edition

Same here! (Same situation, I'm not agreeing that your DPE made a mistake!)

    Mooney down, Watertown WI

I agree @flyingcheesehead, getting those texts is never fun. I guess the flip side is if you're getting them, the involved aircraft probably WASN'T you. I've flown into and out of KUNU and my sister went to college in Watertown, just about a half mile from the accident site and said she went to...

Just had a TOL Eval. Went pretty badly.

Notice that even though, as my username indicates, I am one of those "religious people" you refer to (quite derogatorily, I might add), yet my first response was not about that. I don't know the religious leanings of the person who posted the message you were responding to, but his suggestion...

Just had a TOL Eval. Went pretty badly.

Quite frankly, @ImAParrot, I'm surprised that you've stuck around this long. Between the negative interaction with the evaluator, and the largely negative feedback here, I'd probably have bailed a while ago. Let me set aside your disparaging comments toward members of this community, and give...

    Something going on around DC

Based on that, paired with the Track Log, that was about the time they crossed through FL300-FL310.

    Something going on around DC

So a couple of thoughts after reading 5 pages of speculation (to which I'm admittedly adding) and needless argumentation: 1. As @FPK1 noted, we have to consider pilot health. If indeed the pilot had a cardiac event or something similar, pax would likely not have even noticed for a very long...

    Transporting your firearm

    I don’t believe so.

    Transporting your firearm

Just become a Law Enforcement Officer, and don't worry about which states you can and can't carry. LEOSA authorizes duly appointed officers to carry in all 50 states and DC (with obvious exceptions of courthouses/federal buildings/etc. except when on duty).

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

As a fellow data nerd, I’m curious about this. I have not used PowerBI at all. How big is the learning curve?

    LAHSO Why all the fuss?

I got my first LASHO last week at KBTV. In my 172 with flaps, I had about 1400’ left before my “hold short of” point. After clearing the runway, I realized that the aircraft for which I was holding short were F-35s. Yeah, don’t want to cross one of those!

    Silly, contrived scenario

You are correct. That is the part that I misstated in my original post.

    Silly, contrived scenario

I suppose I misstated my point. It has to be dual instruction. You can’t just stick a “student pilot” in the passenger seat for a trip and throw currency out the window.

    Silly, contrived scenario

Technically speaking, just because you have a passenger, who also is a student pilot, that doesn’t inherently exempt you from the night currency. They also have to be the sole manipulator. (Ya know, since we’re nitpicking at words in this thread…) Otherwise, I’m getting my wife her student pilot...

    Trevor Jacob Crash and Burn

Not only every location, but different inmates cooking can make a difference. One guy gets really good at some dish and then he gets released/transferred/sent to the hole/etc. Next guy doesn’t have a clue how to make it so it’s garbage. Tonight’s dinner wasn’t that great, but ironically, the no...

Disney Perm Flight Restrictions going away?

ETA: This is not at all to say I’m anti-authority or anti-law. I just think there needs to be some “duh” kind of common sense sometimes. Some TFRs are very good. Presidential TFRs for instance, are a way to ensure that there isn’t an unforeseen breach of security. The secret service makes every...

Disney Perm Flight Restrictions going away?

TFRs stop rogue pilots the same way gun control keeps criminals from acquiring firearms and border entry points prevent people from entering the country illegally. Bottom line: if people want to do bad things, you can put all the laws in place that you want, but they WANT to do bad things, so...

    Part 61 Solo

I had a CFI who operated very much like described in the OP. Former US Army rotorcraft pilot, and had retired from the same federal agency that I work for. We had a great relationship and I never thought twice about having him sign off on every solo. Honestly the thought of a <40 hr pilot going...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

My wife and I cleared customs at Burlington, VT on Tuesday coming back from visiting her parents in QC. Heard several pilots talking about their TAC arrivals while on with Approach. Landed, taxied to parking, and as we got out, realized that those were F-35s we heard! So cool to watch them turn...
