Can Private Pilots Have a "Job"?

Hey, @Natalie , welcome to the Forum! As the others have mentioned, what you described is still “getting paid” according to the FAA. Instead of getting money, they are paying you in “free flight hours,” which, if you are already looking into getting your pilot certificate, you know is quite...

Why can I upload a photo from my computer to a thread like this, but not to my signature?

    2024 Goals

Give me a shout when you come to KLHV. Even if I can’t meet up with you, I’ll try to hook you up with the director of the museum for a VERY robust tour! He is a WEALTH of knowledge about all things Piper and a member of the local pilots association.

    N4187Q PA32 Down in Georgia

I hope to one day be where you folks are at. Currently, I’m on the other end of the flying spectrum: 34 with 3 years under my belt. I’m probably more risk averse than the 18 year old, but not yet as wise and cautious as you all. The one thing that I think pilots of all ages forget, from the...

Just in case anybody liked the “Adulting Merit Badges” enough to buy them. (And no, I’m not the seller.)

    Daily Pic

This time of year, you take every chance you get to keep instrument current (and hopefully proficient). Low-ish ceilings, high enough temperature, and manageable winds turned into 3 approaches in IMC, 2 to KSEG and one to KIPT.

FAA FOIA request pilot enforcement records

Actually, after having reviewed that document, I believe that all documents are sealed to the public WHILE the investigation is ongoing, but are subject to FOIA request after that. I could be misreading something, but that’s what it seems to say.

Weird placement of car parts. Why?

That’s ok, I’ll do it for you! I grew up on a farm, so when I needed new plugs and wires in my 96 Explorer, I thought it would be no big deal…. Yeah, the last plug took me an hour and a half all on its own. And dealer service fees are simply outrageous. Got my wife a brand new black Honda. She...

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

I’m a page late, but… Did you hear that the West Virginia Governor’s Mansion burned down last week? Yup, clear to the rear axles! The real tragedy is that the state library was also lost to the fire. Both books! And they hadn’t even finished coloring one of them yet!

    61.129 Commercial instrument time

So to ask a slightly lower level question than the majority of this thread has dealt with, those 10 hours using a “view limiting device” have to include the prescribed tasks. So in theory, you could do all the tasks in, say, 2 hours, and just fly a straight line under the hood for the other...

Can you log cross country for all flights in a day if they were conducted in different airplanes?

“Fastest cross-country flight” with basically no fuel stop. Have plane B (and C, etc.) waiting already fueled. When you’re on short final, they fire up and have it waiting. You shut down, run to the new cockpit, and bam, you’re off again!

If somebody showed up at our farm, I'd have to go looking for candy. Meanwhile, a mile away in town, there were so many kids, it was hard to drive back from the grocery store!

    Richard McSpadden Crash

Wind is just one of the factors to consider, in the brief seconds or split-seconds you have. For instance, regardless of wind, a departure from runway 27 at KIPT will ALWAYS be a right turn and vice versa for RWY 9. Why? There’s a mountain on the south side of the runway sticking up 2000´ above...
