    Someone busting Milwaukee TFR...

Turns out the RV pilot who busted the TFR is a friend of mine. He was using the published arrival procedures in the Oshkosh NOTAM. Unfortunately, the TFR was expanded to be significantly larger than shown in the arrival NOTAM.

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

New lightweight tents need to be absolutely babied to last more than 3 years.

    EAA life membership value?

And that certified airplane will have about 2/3 the performance. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

…no longer going to Oshkosh. Been here since 10 AM.

    Someone busting Milwaukee TFR...

Buddy of mine reported that someone did that yesterday and was held at the end of the runway after arriving at Osh. They supposedly held him until his friends in the Secret Service arrived.

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

Dunno. I'll let you know as soon as I know. And if you leave before he does, I'm sure we can figure something out.

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

Yep, he'll need parking. He has his IFR checkride with the DPE on Monday and will arrive at Osh on Tuesday.

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

Same here. ;-) Planned to go to the airport today before work (while the hangar was <90F), but as soon as I headed that way, I saw a huge cell in that direction. Aborted the airport run and beat everyone to the office by an hour. Took a two hour lunch to compensate and finished all the stuff...

    EAA life membership value?

You've got your firewall forward and paint numbers reversed, but the total for a -10 is still gonna be $250K. More if you need a 777 style panel and the interior from a Lexus. There are pre-wired, everything possible done by a 3rd party panels that approach $100k and you can spend big bucks...

    Waco YKC Crash

Friends of mine had a seriously (ridiculously) upgraded Stearman. It was IFR and had provisions for heated suits...

    EAA life membership value?

Lots of discussion over the years that builders of experimental aircraft have seen their share of the cheese diminished. No doubt about that. EAA rolled Experimenter into SA a while back (10 years?) and promised that the experimenter content wouldn't diminish. That didn't work out so well. But...

    EAA life membership value?

Your points are both valid. The interest in wooden or rag and tube scratch built aircraft is low these days, and there’s little depth to SA’s articles. There used to be a lot of depth (say 40 years ago), but unless you were a dedicated scratch builder that content was too far in the weeds. I...

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

I had an '85 GTI in those days and was very disappointed when I test drove an Escort GT. It reeked of cheap.

    Airventure Arrival Practice

I can fly safely at 90, so I believe the low route is my rightful place.

    Airventure Arrival Practice

I don't think anyone was hurt/killed doing the arrival/departure procedures. I'm aware of the crash in the UL area, and are you counting the T6 that crashed in the lake? That was a loss of control accident near Oshkosh, but really had nothing to do with the NOTAMed activies.

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

That was the problem departing on Thursday AM last year. Warbirds doing joyrides, the Trimotors selling rides, inbounds, military stuff coming and going. The Rapid Rabbit (or similar) C-47 that got to the first position to depart and held up everyone for 3-4-5 minutes because they weren't ready...

Scary High Oil Temps - Lycoming 540

This is the point where you beat your head against the wall and go for your glider rating. There times where the sparky fire burning thing and all its paraphernalia just don't work in harmony and all the King's horses and all the King's men can't make it better until Merlin (or a close...

Scary High Oil Temps - Lycoming 540

That sucks. I'll have a free beer for you in HBC if you wanna drop by. The good thing is you're not telling us you need a $50K engine rebuild...
