I think their rules were documented. But they didn't enforce them when they saw one or more violations of those rules by the gyro pilot who (allegedly) caused the accident.

That seems like a total failure on NASA's part.

Tech pushed FSU around the field most of the day and won at the end. The field goal accounted for the winning points, but Tech was the better team.

I visited that project in Douglas, GA a couple of times when it was underway. Tom and his girlfriend (now wife) were very friendly and accommodating on both visits. I even gave her a ride in the RV-6 one of the times I was down there. I always wondered if there would be a market for the airplane...

I've often thought computers and the "ease" of versioning just meant you spent the same amount of time on a project, but the number of options created/reviewed went up by a factor of 10. When, in fact, you knew the optimum solution was probably in one of the first 3 options you generated...
