    O-320 OH Cost

I asked this question to Barrett a couple of weeks ago. $28K (IIRC) with new cylinders, but assuming my case and crank can be yellow tagged. That price is with no accessories.

Is the "hope" part "Hope we don't have to replace the wings because of the AD?"

    Changing an E-AB after certification

That would be a heck of a deal for anyone. 'Course, you've gotta have $250K and 3 weeks of vacation to work with.

    Changing an E-AB after certification

I built my -10 before things got insanely expensive. So, yeah, I'd buy an SR-22X clone for that. So would everyone else on the forum. You want the skies filled with airplanes again, make new $160K SR22's happen...

    Changing an E-AB after certification

You wanna buy my RV-10 for half the cost of a new SR-22? I promise I used the latest, greatest technologies and <garage> production methods. This is the true test. ;-)

    Fokker down Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome

Saw him fly that airplane two weeks ago today. Very sad.

    Changing an E-AB after certification

The challenge is that composites require a big up-front investment in molds and the like. The DarkAero guys are taking that approach. It'll be interesting to see how their kit pricing compares to sorta similar RV's. Of course, to your point, one might spend more $$ on the DarkAero but save a...

    Changing an E-AB after certification

Build an RV-10. Trade the cost and maintenance of retracts for the expense of 2 more cylinders. Go faster, carry more...

Trip to Rhinebeck and Smithsonian Air & Space Museums

It is always possible that i misunderstood what they told us or that I mis-remember 47 years later. ;-)

Trip to Rhinebeck and Smithsonian Air & Space Museums

They offered docent tours (free) every hour when we were there. We started one but I was disappointed in the docent’s knowledge and we broke off after a few minutes. Funny, when I was there almost 50 years ago, we were told that the rotation of the earth was what powered the pendulum. That...

    HOW DID THEY FLY WARBIRDS??

First, they selected the top applicants for flight school. Second, they ran them through three levels of training before flying combat types. Third, they washed out the candidates who didn’t successfully complete each step of training. And fourth, they accepted high casualty rates in training.

Trip to Rhinebeck and Smithsonian Air & Space Museums

I have several items on my aviation bucket list and checked off two of 'em last week. Early Saturday morning my son Alex and I flew commercial from Atlanta to Newark NJ and picked up a rental car which got us the 100 or so miles North to Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. We were there by 12:30 or so...

    Planes and hurricanes

No major concerns in the Atlanta area or NW Georgia. We had several inches of rain and <30 mph winds, so not that much worse than a big line of thunderstorms. The storm went East of Atlanta, so that's where any bigger damage happened.

Darren Pleasance replacing Mark Baker Jan 1.

I tend to agree, which is why I cancelled my membership earlier this year. BUT, it is hard (maybe impossible) to know what demons they have managed to shove back in Pandora's box over the years.

Do you know any composite aircraft builders or RV builders? Any of them should be able to make that repair.

Darren Pleasance replacing Mark Baker Jan 1.

I remember previous AOPA and other sweepstakes where they organized a surprise reception to present the new owner with the airplane s/he won. That kind of thing makes for a better story...

    Piper cowl repair

IMO, this is a cosmetic issue and falls into the owner maintenance category. Find a homebuilder who is comfortable with composites and it'll be a small job for them and they will probably already have the necessary materials other than the paint. The process I'd use would be to mask the area...

    Considering a RV-6A But.......

I think in many cases a poorly designed nose wheel axle and/or bearing caused the wheel to seize, resulting in a cascading failure that took out the nose strut. Owners with upgraded nosewheels don't seem to have nose gear failures unless they do something abusive like taxiing through a ditch...
