If you left your 182 in a Marne, Michigan cornfield, the FAA would like to speak to you

Hominy more stupid corn puns ‘til this thread dries up?

Insurance Company Throws A Logical Twist

I was going to say the opposite until your experience. I was thinking insurance companies are for-profit businesses. They want to increase the security of their revenues (premium payments) by reducing the risk of payouts (claims). It would make no sense to arbitrarily reduce revenues if there...

Insurance Company Throws A Logical Twist

You can shop around docs for Basic Med and kind of get what you want. For Class 3, there’s less variability and more risk. Can a basic med doc “cause” a deferral? If not, there’s the “FAA denial” risk reduction.

    Single Pilot "Emergencies"

Flight bag thread… I’ve had a less than perfect landing when I opted for a bathroom at my destination rather than a wide mouth Gatorade bottle. It wasn’t THAT bad 30 minutes earlier. Poor ADM, lol!

Triple 4, double charlie - does it annoy you?

I like it, it’s unique and it helps me keep track of at least one plane without thinking about a tail number if there’s more than 1 plane where I’m landing or taking off.

    Dead technology

That’s cool, did not know that. How would we know what the DA is at any given time at some altitude in some location? Seems like it would be kind of tough to figure out. Look how much argument and disagreement the 3 levers/knobs already cause, lol!

    lahso student question

With student solo cross-country distances, you’re talking to 3, maybe 4 controllers - departure tower, enroute controller, maybe another enroute, then destination tower. So that’s 3 or 4 that only take the introductory “student pilot” announcement one time. If you forget, or if the controller...

You parked all nice and orderly like you were the first arrival to a fly-in and were expecting more planes :)

How much ethanol is too much

Correct. My question is about power and combustion. As to burning, we can light stuff at 101 proof (50.5% ethanol). Where it stops working in an ICE or making enough power to takeoff is probably higher. So incidental/inadvertent water in supposedly 100% ethanol fuel becomes less of an issue...

How much ethanol is too much

Thanks. I was referring to the 100% ethanol potion of this discussion with my question.

How much ethanol is too much

Since ethanol & water are miscible, up to some point water in the fuel should be no problem. At what point does it become a problem where it affects power or ability to combust?

How much ethanol is too much

I read the study you posted. In academia, some papers end up at the end of a cul de sac, while others end up on a main road. Sometimes it’s because the study results couldn’t be verified or repeated, or not enough interest or funding (insert conspiracy theories, but funding begets studies that...

    WSJ article about airplane camping

I might have accessed an FBO a time or two by ground vehicle for my lovely bride when it was closer (and cleaner) than a gas station bathroom…just so happened to be nearby.

In aircraft oxygen solutions for short flights and up to max. altitude of 10,000 feet?

A “little” bottle (the kind that will fit in a soft carry case) will last me about 4 hours on the lower settings. I turn it up until my O2 saturation is acceptable. Doesn’t take much. If you buy a demand regulator, and a bigger bottle, you should be good for multiple 2 hour legs. Check FB...

    Training Crash

Unless the POH called for it, going flaps 20 to 10 didn’t help. It just removed lift thereby compounding the problem. Maybe muscle memory from going flaps 30/40 to 20 on go-arounds…
