    Accelerated spark plug wear?

What would cause faster spark plug wear? I could’ve sworn that my plugs were replaced about 200 hours ago; I’ll have to check the logs to be sure. Many of the center electrodes are already way football shaped and now look worse than the ones they replaced. IO-470. Champion massives. Rich of...

    Update on Catalina Baron crash

How long is your runway, and where would you place your tractor? Would there be any plane model whose performance could takeoff in the intervening space? Or could I maneuver beyond and takeoff from there? Might you need 10 tractors over a 3,000 runway? Since we’re making up hypotheticals:)

    Update on Catalina Baron crash

I don’t think anything needs fixing on the airport side of management. Operations are already “prohibited” at night. It’s not as safe after dark as other airports. Don’t drink battery acid, smoking is bad for you, and all that jazz.

Seeking PIREP: Tom Wood Aviation for Avionics

The only PIREP I have is for Lafayette Avionics about 1 hour drive north at KLAF. I have nothing but good things to say about customer service and quality. A 1 year backlog is the only downside.

    DOGE and the FAA

To your graph, it costs money to have nice things. The PVC chairs and ice chest that I used for my family room chairs and coffee table in my small apartment have been replaced by nice couches and wood table in my big house with acres and multi car garage (and airplane and other shiz). We can...

    Single Pilot Airbus?

I want my pilot to have blood in the game, not a remote pilot. Taken to the extreme, how would some of the historical air carrier accidents with survivors have fared without the pilotS doing their thang? How about a different extreme - how much financial opportunity was lost over the last...

    Update on Catalina Baron crash

Funny (in a morbid way), but true. Kind of like “write an essay or do a presentation” for your fellow PPL students or CFI. Especially in the last decade or so where this stuff is easy to find in the report databases. Would have been a lot harder back in the day.

    Update on Catalina Baron crash

Using one’s discretion becomes more and more of a factor as hours and experiences build. Discretionary checking or ignoring of one of the PAVE items or “rules” like no night departures is a risk factor in and of itself. That’s why these discussions have value, even if the facts have not yet...

And both of yours are better than mine, which are fugly and barely functional…

    Tug advice.

That’s exactly what I do with my Minimax. I don’t use wheel pants, so it’s small enough to transport on a cross-country (it does not fold though).

    Tug advice.

Minimax & 182. Have had it for about 4 years. Love it. Good personal customer service. I was about 1 hour flight from the manufacturer. I tried before I bought. Minimax has an attachment/adapter for wheel pants (skirts). No knowledge of the Sidewinder.

The "Back in my day" Thread

Cable TV with 36 channels! The cable box on top of the TV with 12 click push buttons and a 3 way selector. Scrambled HBO and Showrime. And when parents weren’t home, trying to catch a glimpse of a body part on the scrambled porn channel. LMAO! Horny teens… How about the VHS vs Beta...

The "Back in my day" Thread

It was Africa back when, and a smart comeback was “For as long as they’ve been starving now, aren’t they dead already? So they won’t miss the food anymore.”

New owner - question regarding annual timeout

Some people use that time strategy to do an annual every 13 months and therefore saving 1/12 of their money each year. I used that strategy to take my annuals from the nice spring/summer/fall flying season to the claggy scuddy less desirable late fall/early winter. My first annual in 2017 was...

The "Back in my day" Thread

There were only a few TV stations. In Cleveland where I grew up NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, and independent. They stopped broadcasting around midnight. There was no 24 hour store that I remember. No food, no gas. I think the first 7-Eleven I went to was in Houston in the 1980s. Was it called that...

FAA will lay off all ARTCC meteorologists and use automated forecasting instead

What GA service is affected? Will ATC still be able to let me know what precip they’re seeing? Will I lose the forecast discussion writeups? Hate for people to lose their jobs.

    COMM Multi Training Completion Question

I thought 141 or aviation program at a university was a requirement for R-ATP. Am I being too simplistic? No reason you can’t finish up ATP with 61, “just” losing the R benefits.

Spend my money - which autopilot?

Does it automatically revert to those modes? Does it revert back when signal is gained? I ask because I’ve had one instance of GPS signal dropping for about 5 seconds and it affecting my old school non-Garmin nav set-up. Once the signal came back, all was normal again. The A/P reaction was...

    DOGE and the FAA

Some moderation between completely risk-free safety and wild abandon free-for-all of innovation would be cool. Like manufacturers (not home builders) slap a SUPER-EXPERIMENTAL on stuff and let ‘er rip. No lawsuits allowed, lol! You get what you get when you climb in, suck it up buttercup.
