    Directional MEAs and G-MEAs

Edit for clarification- Im on the other side of the radio- Trainee at San Juan Cerap You've got me curious now. I'm going to have to ask around at work and find out the justification for doing it the way we do it. the High MEA on that route segment is likely due to navaid reception. its all...

    Directional MEAs and G-MEAs

Actually, going direct can be a very effective way of avoiding some high MEAs. many times the limitation is based on nav reception. Going direct, because you are GPS equipped, can avoid that issue. We have an airway in my airspace with an MEA of 14,000 ft. Many of the aircraft fly it at...

    Raptor Aircraft

why does it seem like the controller is always a step behind there? there is usually an extra bit of a pause before they respond to any request. even when PM declared an emergency and a little bit of urgency is called for, it seems like they need to stop reading their book, put the bookmark...

Does ATC know if you are IR'ed?

you gotta screw up pretty bad to get a number to call, at least around my area. unapproved climb or descent, WAY off course, etc. I would guess the people who accept a pop up IFR clearance are those who have enough experience to fake it.

    ATC and ADSB

one of the citations was VFR. or the controller screwed up. but either way, the controller would have been paying a little bit of attention to the airport because he either Cleared and switched the first citation, or he just released the second one and was waiting for him to tag up. he...

    Hummel Field W75

I was planning on stopping there last month on our way up to New Hampshire from Puerto rico. I decided not to after our first few take offs at max gross weight were a little more sluggish than I would have preferred. Im sure we would have been fine getting in and out, but after flying for a...

Someone almost pulled off a Ford

we had a mooney in NH crash into the trees short of the runway because the sun blinded him... really nice guy. He said he knew he should have gone around, but didnt. The local pilot group actually sent an email out suggesting that if the wind isnt too bad, consider landing to the east around...

    Winter trip to the Northeast

For an old school feel and a great breakfast/lunch, consider Hampton Airfield 7B3. 2100' with trees, paved and grass next to each other. The people there are some of the nicest anywhere.

    Another New Hampshire Flying Destination

This is where I "grew up". Got my PPL in C172s there. Hampton has spoiled me, and no airport will ever be good enough now!

The end of an era: Aricebo will be demolished.

There is definitely FAA here in Puerto Rico. Thats actually why I moved to PR. ATC though, not Flight standards.

Bellanca Viking lands on I-35W in MN on 12/2/2020

    What the actual...

there is something a little comforting about a controller who speaks casually sometimes. Familiarity, maybe. but he has already had communications problems with this aircraft. could be a student pilot, could be someone who doesnt fly into towered airports and was nervous, who knows, but...

    Kx155 squelch

This. When I first picked up my bonanza, I tried a usb charger that had a built in CO monitor. I thought the mechanic who did the prebuy screwed something up with the EDM-700 installation (he did, but thats another rant for another time). I ended up pulling the charger out and all the noise...

    Cirrus down - Bahamas

That one almost got me here in PR. I happened to mention to a pilot coworker that we were going to St Croix for our first trip in the plane so we didnt have to deal with customs. He filled me in pretty quickly. Its customs "lite". Have to file eAPIS, but dont need a passport.

    Cirrus down - Bahamas

Bahamas, yes. even just for fuel. Im trying to remember if I got a stamp in my passport when I stopped in Stella Maris. I definitely had to submit GenDecs. the no customs thing is the only thing that makes sitting in a plane for 6+ hours PR to PBI

    Cirrus down - Bahamas

We are planning TJIG to F45 nonstop in the bonanza in a few weeks. about 6.5 hours. mostly to avoid having to stop for customs twice. If the winds arent in our favor, we wont be doing it nonstop. Im landing with at least 15 gallons on board. we will also have life vests and a raft. We also...

    Has anyone used www.kx155display.com?

thats certainly an option, but I would like to keep my VOR and ILS if I can... not bad enough to install a new 255, but Im about to start my instrument training, and thats all I have for certified nav right now.
