    Beard guys, some tips?

I have a full beard. The toughest part is getting through the first couple weeks, when it looks messy and it itches like crazy. Beard oils and a brush (soft bristle) can help. The oil is more for your skin than the hair. I would recommend touching up your cheeks with a razor, but I don’t touch...

    GA recommendation for Miami?

Ive been to HWO and TMB. 2 totally different feels, to me. HWO felt like a piston airport. Bobby's landing was friendly and helpful. Their fuel was cheap, and when the self serve card reader didnt work, they filled me up from the truck and only charged self serve prices. Parking was...

Sit in your Mooney / Comanche / Grumman / Musketeer?

I feel like Im perpetuating a stereotype here, but based on what you are looking for, I would suggest not writing off early bonanzas (pre-1957). the E series engine is a bit of an oddball, but there are plenty of people who still know those planes well. and they are likely to be affordable. My...

    Prop shops in central FL

I used Aviation Propellers Inc in Opa Locka FL for my bonanza's inspection and oil transfer unit overhaul. I paid about 3200 for the work, and left the plane at KTMB to have it done. Pretty painless. the only issue I had was that I was expecting them to paint the prop and they didnt (although...

Shopping for a watch any suggestions

I have an Apple Watch that I wear regardless of if I’m flying or not. But I like that I can check my O2 level on it. I also use it for fuel timers and can feel the haptic vibration in the air.

    Extensive radio check.

This test does not have to be done on a frequency that ATC is actively using. a random frequency isnt being used nearby (CTAF, UNICOM, Remote clearance, etc) and have a friend/spouse with a handheld listen to you ramble.

    FBO at Melbourne

I used FIT (Eff Eye Tee, not fit... ask me how I know!) a couple years ago. I was picking up a friend who went to school there to fly to Puerto Rico with my new-to-me bonanza. I had no complaints. Facilities are nice.

New England area places to fly?

Ill second the Airfield Cafe at Hampton, NH (7B3). Always fantastic food, the new building is great, and the airport is charming. also, Limington-Harmon, ME (63B) has a decent restaurant on the field. We also went to Orange, MA (KORE) and walked across the street to the diner there. it was a...

    Boost Oxygen

I keep a bottle in the plane on long cross countries when I plan on being up around 10-11k feet. I keep track of my O2 level, and for the most part its fine, but if it gets down below 90, a hit or 2 from the bottle will bump me back up to the high 90s.

    Skytyper Fatal 8/20

He was based at Hampton airfield, where I learned how to fly. He took me flying in his Maule once. He was a great guy and a very safety conscious pilot. When I moved to Puerto Rico, he had an overnight (with his airline) so we got to meet up for lunch. it was great to see a familiar face at...

Vfr Miami to puerto rico nonstop

Like @hindsight2020 mentioned, per notam, you arent supposed to fly from the states directly to TJMZ. you can probably get away with going direct, but thats a risk only you can decide is worth it. ATC doesnt enforce those notams (Hell, most of us probably dont know they exist), and I would be...
