Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

Pulling up to the hold short line doesn't guarantee wingtip clearance Doesn't change the responsibility of the aircraft behind you to not hit you. What if it wasn't a CRJ-900 at 119 feet long, but an MD-80 at 140+ feet? Would it have mattered where it stopped? Find one reference in the...

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

For everyone saying well the CRJ didn't pull up far enough, let me say it loud, THE HOLD SHORT does NOT guarantee wingtip clearance from the taxiway. Two reasons for that, you can't predict how long of an aircraft will be at the hold short at any particular moment, and you can't predict the...

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

Video shows the collision happened right where the tail fell off, on H short of 8R.

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

Being pulled up to hold short does not assure wingtip clearance behind you. It is up to the following aircraft to ensure they have enough clearance.

Please don't ever let the media think they can "fix" anything!

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

If that's the case, I can see where the chain of events gets moving. The 295 crew likely was a little distracted with whatever issue it is, they just want to get parked somewhere to resolve it. There is video of the event on Twitter now, the taxiway in front of them was wide open. "Let's just...

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

Based on this transcript, I would believe Delta 295 (the Airbus) was going to Runway 8R for departure, why did it taxi past the RJ holding short at the end of 8R? Shouldn't it have followed it onto Taxiway H to the runway?

    Tactical balloons? Surveillance, or what?

Aerostar has also had contracts with companies like Google doing research on providing broadband Internet to rural areas, etc. Lots of uses of high altitude balloons.

    3rd class and hay fever

I have been doing the desensitization shot program for many years. I report it on my med application and the AME has never had an issue with it. At most he just asked if it seemed like it was working, which it has.

    Egregious FBO charges

Two points from AA5's post I'd like to comment on. 1. Yes the FAA provides infrastructure grants to airports. While those grants cover a large portion of the cost, there is always a local match, and a limit on how much money an airport can get. The FAA provides $0 to fund the operation and...

    Oh, those silly geographers.....

Ironically Maine is often referred to as Down East, even has a magazine by that name dedicated to the state. Not sure what it's Down from, Canada?

    Egregious FBO charges

I often see this Grant Assurance thrown out in these conversations, understandably so from the owner/operator viewpoint. But if you skip down from Grant Assurance #22 to #24, you find this nugget. "It will maintain a fee and rental structure for the facilities and services at the airport which...

    Oh, those silly geographers.....

Ever since moving to the Midwest, Iowa, I've always been confused how the Mid extends from the Dakotas to Ohio? Iowa makes sense, we are almost as mid as it gets. Maybe east of the MS River should be Mideast.

There are 101 public airports in Illinois...

Does any group in Illinois offer a prize for such a feat. I know here, the Iowa Aviation Promotion Group has their Fly Iowa Challenge which awards prizes to pilots who visit all 109 airports in Iowa. https://flyiowa.org/fly-iowa-challenge/

    Check out those expressions

I saw that photo on social media already, and wanted to write it off as a bad photoshop. But it does appear to be real, which makes me ask who would take such a photo instead of trying to help. ..but I'm a fire fighter and first responder, my brain is wired differently.

2 inches bigger and I am having trouble making it fit

My iPad, safely stowed in a side pocket until I need it. More than enough wiz bang automation mounted in the panel for 90% of the flight. Only use the iPad for approach plates or occasional other information, then stow again. I prefer a clean uncluttered cockpit, and could never find a place...

2 Delta workers killed at ATL after tire explosion 8/27/24

As an airport firefighter, exploding aircraft tires are one of the many hazards we are specifically trained for, or at least trained to avoid. If you have never seen this video before, it shows the hazards very well. The background, this is a certification test for the Airbus A340 when it...

    Burning Man

I think I've stated this before, but for me flying an airplane into Burning Man seems like an oxymoron. At least from what I think Burning Man is supposed to represent anyway.

    Printer w/ (auto) Duplex Scanning?

That's a relief! Yeah it's a monster, but it has a lot of capability. As I mentioned in a previous post, we have a $1,000+ Xerox machine at work that this Canon can run circles around. It does make a little noise, but we keep ours upstairs in my wife's office, so it's hardly noticeable. We...
