    Egregious FBO charges

There are small communities that contract out the entire operation and management of the airport to an FBO, usually small family owned businesses. It saves the small community the cost of managing and maintaining the airport full time. Signature, etc., is not providing airport management...

Who are you going to call when the self serve pump doesn't work?

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

Tell me this, would this app have prevented this incident? The taxiway was usable for the aircraft in question. They just didn't judge their clearance from another aircraft using the same taxiways. There is nothing in Airport Design that can prevent that.

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

This accident didn't happen in the terminal environment, where wing walkers are standard protocol. This happened on a taxiway near the end of an active runway. Are you proposing wing walkers on the airfield as well?

What size expenses await the person that buys this? (Curious, not trolling)

$600k running, but needed $600k+ to keep it that way. It wasn't going to be worth $1.2M when it was done, maybe $800k. Worth more to part out than to try to keep flyable. Wasn't a bad looking plane either, just too many high dollar inspections and parts all coming due at the same time.

What size expenses await the person that buys this? (Curious, not trolling)

We had a tenant with an older jet a few years ago in the same price range. The airframe came up on a major required maintenance interval at the same time both engines did. The airplane was worth about $600k, and was looking at well over that in cost to complete all of the required maintenance...

    Considering a RV-6A But.......

I'd wager that difference is due to difference in capabilities of the two aircraft. The RV being higher performance and aerobatic capable has led to at least a few accidents when pilots exceeded either their own or the aircraft's capability. I know of several RV accidents that were the result...

    Pan Pan

Absolutely! Yeah, maybe it was what you thought it was. Or maybe some debris from the maintenance found its way further into the fuel system. Could it have come back. At least you had someone else's attention and they were watching to make sure you made it back and ready to assist...

    Egregious FBO charges

Correct, it would be in the wording of the lease with the FBO. One thing to note, when the FAA funds a project at an airport, they don't just write a check and walk away. The FAA has an engineer assigned to each project from concept to closeout, and use and "ownership" of that pavement is part...

    Egregious FBO charges

There are a lot more costs associated with maintaining the airport than you realize. Yes there are Federal Grants given to airports, but there is never enough money to go around. Only certain projects are eligible. The FAA will pay to repave a runway, or rehabilitate a lighting system, but...

Flight simmers - help me understand the market for super-realistic airplane models

Ok, I have a confession to make, I'm one of them. :dunno: It's a hobby. Even though I'm a pilot, my career path has taken me in different directions and I'll probably never get fly some of the aircraft I'd love to, at least not anytime soon. Flight simming is a way to do, even if not for...

    Egregious FBO charges

Nope. The Federal Government contributes $0 to operations and maintenance cost of an airport. The FAA will pay to pave it, but not to maintain it.

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

The only question I would have is did they use wrenches to unbolt what was left, or sawzall?

    Pan Pan

As an airport firefighter myself, among other things, we would prefer you ask for the help. We are here to assist and would rather be called and not needed than vice versa. We aren't going to bill you, at least at my airport, and aren't going to hassle you. We may ask for a few bits of...

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

The ground controller is located in a tower a mile away. Do you think they have a better perspective on wingtip clearance than the pilots?

    Egregious FBO charges

Controlled Airport - Airport having a control tower Commercial Airport - Airport have scheduled airline service Commercial airports typically have higher security requirements. Controlled airports are usually the cause for heightened security. An airport can be one, both, or neither.

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

So by that logic, had the CRJ not turned onto Taxiway H and instead stopped on Taxiway E (the parallel to the runway), the Airbus can just run over it?

    Egregious FBO charges

Ever parked downtown in any major metropolitan area. Find a lot of free parking, even on the taxpayer funded streets? Another thing I'd note, if the FBO is granted exclusive use of the ramp space by their lease, that ramp is not funded by FAA grants. Either the Airport or the FBO is paying...

Delta knocks tail off other plane on ground

AC 150/5300-13A Airport Design, Chapter 4 is all about Taxiway Design. There are standards for wingtip separation between parallel taxiways, but obviously not for crossing taxiways. There are also standards of distance between taxiways and runways, but that is more driven by obstacle height...
