    I would certainly hope so.

    Helene relief flights

I've lived through one of the major natural disasters in recent history, Hurricane Katrina. Here are a few of my observations. - Don't depend on the government to be the saving grace, not the feds, state, or local. Yourself, friends, family, neighbors are going to be your first responders. -...

    Florida in Crosshairs Again…. Milton

Ironically the one part of Florida not threatened by Hurricane Milton.

Skew-T diagrams removed because blind people can’t see them

Only our government. If one person can't use it, no one can use it.

FAA Drops Expiration Date from CFI

I read somewhere there will now be a three month grace period after expiration to complete a FIRC and reinstate your certificate. Currently if you are one day late you have to take a checkride to reinstate.

    "Yes"

    HOW DID THEY FLY WARBIRDS??

Even in today's military, new pilots can find themselves solo in a single seat fighter with just a few hundred hours. There is no one in the civilian world going to turn lose a freshly minted commercial pilot to fly anything turbine powered. A lot of it goes into the structure of the military...

    Planes and hurricanes

Hurricanes can spawn hundreds of tornadoes, in addition to straight line winds with the speed of a tornado.

Is there a website data base of airfields that have T hangars available?

I would guess its a short list. I don't know of any airports with vacant T hangars off hand.

    Quiet Birdmen

I did the fraternity thing in college, made some good friends along the way. I probably would have done better in school, maybe not changed majors and career paths, but that's life. Now that I'm older, I don't really like people all that much. Spend most of my time either with the wife or...

Man who crashed snowmobile into a parked Black Hawk helicopter suing government for $9.5M

Can the government sue him for his 40% of the damages to the Blackhawk? As others do too, I disagree with this judgement. There was no way the Blackhawk crew could have predicted they would be in the way of a snowmobile. They were operating with permission of the runway owner. I can see...

Kortokrax, Olshock, Schaffner LOI’s (CFI currency) Rescinded

Now you are giving the FAA way too much credit!

Another unleaded 100LL replacement approved (Swift 100R)

What the industry is really waiting on is blanket approval of a drop in replacement for 100LL, no STC or paperwork needed. Something that an FBO could just start ordering tomorrow instead of 100LL. However I don't think the FAA or manufacturers have the stomach for it, no one wants to be...

    Planes and hurricanes

The airlines also take preemptive action as well to move valuable crew and aircraft out of the affected area. The last thing they want is to have a multi million dollar aircraft damaged by the storm, or worse, their name and logo be in all of the media photos in the aftermath.

    Aviation Etiquette

A little bit of courtesy and common sense would go a long way in this world. Sadly we are running short on both these days.

Kortokrax, Olshock, Schaffner LOI’s (CFI currency) Rescinded

The problem with these interpretations is they aren't that easy to find, and sometimes seemingly contradict the published regulations. There is also the unintended consequences, such as the fall out from the warbird/experimental instruction LOI after the one accident of the P-40 giving...

    Planes and hurricanes

The idea of evacuating an aircraft from a hurricane is going to be a very situational and personal choice. Yeah you can have a few days notice, but those days are usually filled with a lot of preparation both of work and personal items, so you have to prioritize. If you have ever lived in...

    Egregious FBO charges

FBOs are not just gas stations. They usually provide multiple services, including maintenance, rental, and instruction. Fuel is just a small part of the business model. Self serve isn't going to replace those other services. We already complain how hard it is to find an A&P that isn't booked...

    Flying with low/flat strut

In all my time, I have only ever read about or heard about one emergency takeoff, in a book from a Vietnam OV-10 pilot. He landed to refuel and rearm when the airfield was closed. With troops in contact and needing his services, he declared an emergency and took off to go back to support the...
