    Why haven't you been to a POA fly-in ?

It wasn’t so much as my career, but rather the criticism of my interpreting of things doesn’t bother me at this point in my life. I’m a high time airline Capt, and if someone doesn’t like if I say atitp, I don’t give a crap. I use my best judgment, and if folks here don’t like it… I don’t give...

Challenger Jet down in Truckee CA 7/26/21

And that’s why airlines do not certify pilots for circling approaches. I know of no airline that types in a jet for circling. (I’m certain someone here will disprove this). My A320 type is restricted to VFR circle only. I have seen some ATP certificates with no circling regardless of type.

Any rules against what you put as your flight ID?

I always thought the call sign was an FCC thing, not FAA. But wtf do I know?? I never applied for one.

    Why haven't you been to a POA fly-in ?

Well, everyone also gets invited to the high school dance, but we all know how that goes. Look, I’m not complaining. I do realize I could indeed participate. I’m just answering the question of why more folks don’t come. And yes…. POA can be a hostile place for some new comers asking newbie...

    Commercial Confusion

Oh my gawd…. I did my PP 61, easy enough. My IR and CP 141. I did not worry about any of this crap. ATP came with the territory. FAA audited logbook for written sign off. Times were easier. I have a CFI (expired), but somehow things were much less complex back then. I would never want to...

IFR in a different category question

I’ve never heard that on the ground, but interestingly enough I have heard it in the air.

    Why haven't you been to a POA fly-in ?

Not that I would attend anyway (but I may surprise you), but the group seems to be a bit cliquish. In all honestly, POA can seem like a mean group to outsiders, at least on the boards. Take it for what it’s worth.

    Multiple Recent ATC Errors...Why?

Listen up… if the crew is in tune to the big picture, that does help. Paying attention and sterile cockpit. It can, and does, avoid tragedy.

With the new ACS rules, is GPS alone sufficient for IR?

I do not disagree, but not imagine the same guy trying to figure out entries, bearings, winds, and adjust timing which can take a few turns to get reasonably close. The “box” is a one step process once you get it entered.

A new panel with only GPS navigation for IFR flying

Not sure about specific models of GPS units. I have used several throughout the last many years. I can list avionics “suites” that were installed in the airplanes, but perhaps that is not what you are wondering about. Point is I have used several platforms to do gps approaches and holding...

With the new ACS rules, is GPS alone sufficient for IR?

Well, I’m not going to respond to individual posts, but I will say I have done extensive IFR flying using VOR/ADF type equipment as well as today’s GPS. No contest imo, today’s equipment is vastly easier. Almost mindless by comparison. YMMV.

With the new ACS rules, is GPS alone sufficient for IR?

And this is the first credible response I’ve seen. Yes, I did adf intersection holds on my ir ride in 1986. Some elders could have said “well you didn’t need to do four course”. Fair enough. That said, both are complicated as compared to todays “Push the button”.

With the new ACS rules, is GPS alone sufficient for IR?

They are dumbing it down yet again?? “Just push the correct button on the GPS, and you are IR”..?? Back in the day one actually had to have the skill to do complex things (NDB intersection holding for example)..

Leasing time in aircraft to a non-pilot

You know, I rarely respond to these type of threads, as I consider myself unqualified to answer. That said, that was EXACTLY what my response would have been if I had responded.

Want to take off differently, any advice?

I’m sorry, but if you can’t do a 180 in the clouds you should not be instrument rated. Please get with an instructor to correct this, or surrender your ir. Not trying to be harsh, but this is pretty basic stuff. Don’t want to see you as a statistic if ATC gives you a large heading change.
