    venturi tube adjustment screw

The regulator has a garter filter. Some older hoses in there for sure and they appear to be a little on the large size but if the clamps are tight I imagine it would work with good hoses. I agree the diaphragm in the regulator could theoretically be leaking which can cause some issues. I’m also...

    venturi tube adjustment screw

Thanks all, I was able to take the top panel off today and look behind the instrument panel. There is definitely a regulator just inside the plane from the venturi and it is safety wired so not likely it went out of adjustment. The vacuum lines do in fact have cracks in them so that is a good...

    venturi tube adjustment screw

I've got a wonky DG and am trying to determine if it's a failing indicator that needs to go to overhaul or if it is just a symptom of low suction. I'm used to seeing suction values closer to 5" in all the other planes I've rented/flown so this one reading 3" at full speed is making me think an...

    venturi tube adjustment screw

My new to me airplane uses a venturi vacuum system. The logbook shows it as an 8" venturi and it is connected to the attitude indicator, directional gyro, and turn indicator. At 100 mph it seems to only pull 3" of vacuum. There is, what appears to be, an adjustment screw on the trailing side...

    Brought the Colt home!

It's a great flying plane. Super simple, you just need to be aware of its sink rate, especially on final.

    Brought the Colt home!

Yes, we got lucky in that there are two airports within 5 miles of each other. One airport has a museum, restaurant, in the heart of a popular city area- but also has a long wait list for a hangar. The other airport has none of that, took us about 25 days to get a hangar. The first one they...

    Brought the Colt home!

But first, we got stuck in Lancaster as the marine layer was too far inland to get home safely. This was after parking her in the hangar. Very thankful the county had one available before we picked up the plane. That was stressful.

Advice for flying to Los Angeles

If fuel prices are a concern take a short flight to Santa Paula (KSZP). Its a fun little uncontrolled strip in a valley that adds to the adventure of getting in but not overly complicated. Fuel prices there are always cheaper than anywhere else.

Advice for flying to Los Angeles

As an added benefit if they fly into CMA and stay the night is that CMA has what is referred to by many as the best airport diner in California for breakfast and lunch.

First visitor in the new hangar

Poison/Traps has already been placed in the hangar. We are driving up to get the plane tomorrow and we will be keeping an eye out for more of these little guys as we visit the hangar regularly once the plane is there.

Well, it is California, so the rodent probably has more rights than me to the hangar!

Thats my thought as well. Didn't really look like a mouse or rat when I was in the hangar with it but I imagine if it decides to camp out in the plane things won't go well. I actually thought it was a pet gerbil that my daughter would love. The wife- not so much. :)

LOL, I think the first plane we seriously considered was a Mouse! That was a while go though.

First visitor in the new hangar

Signed paperwork yesterday on a county hangar lease and decided to take another look at it today before I get our plane this weekend. Turns out, something else wanted to see just how roomy it is. Guess I should get some rodent traps when I pick up a lock for the hangar.

Towing your aircraft to/from the self-serve pump?

The school I learned to fly at did this all the time using a golf cart to move the plane.

I'd prefer Camarillo as its literally a 3 minute drive, but I think Oxnard will have hangars available while Cam has a wait list. You know anyone there with space? Still waiting to hear back from the lady that manages hangars.

It was definitely a blast to fly when I took it up for a test flight. Felt weird with no flaps.
