Anyone around Campbellsville KY that has intimate knowledge of Comanche aircraft. Need a pre buy.

I wouldn't buy it. There are no N numbers so it's probably stolen! LOL Having flown the Traveler (I instruct in one) & Comanche's I think that will be a great fit for you.

Change oil now, or after trip?

In the long run...it probably won't matter either way.

Annual & medical done - relax for a year.

I knew in November I would need to renew my 2nd class medical & my 182 would be due for an annual. The anticipation of both events puts me on edge. There's always a chance my 182 will have some expensive problem pop up & even though I feel like I'm in relatively good health for my 65...

    172's are awesome

What is it with those tailwheel conversions? To me the main gear doesn't look quite right. I don't know if it's the angle of the gear legs or the length. Something just looks weird. Maybe it just me.

    Brag about your life

I became a CFI in 1975 when I was 18. Flew professionally for 7 years but there was no way to make a decent living flying in those days. I worked in another profession for 32 years & retired very comfortably. I even managed to buy a 182 in the process that I fly for fun. Presently, I'm a...

What other professions are okay with late-night messaging?

I'm a full time CFI at a small FBO & have students text me at all hours too. I encourage them to text when they have a question. I figure this might give me an competitive edge. Now that our weather is quite unpredictable it's nice to have a dialog about training options when we have an...

When is a flying club operating as a commercial operation?

That & I do have some concern about protecting the public. New people to aviation might not understand the personal risk/liability that they might be taking on.

When is a flying club operating as a commercial operation?

I have owned an FBO & currently work for one as a full time CFI. It costs a lot of dollars to run a legitimate FBO, ie maintained aircraft, facilities, proper insurance, full services. If a "club" is cutting corners then it's not a level playing field to those in the FBO business that are...

When is a flying club operating as a commercial operation?

Let's say you start a flying club. To be a member and qualify for the club insurance you have to have equity in the airplane. So 10 guys buy a $100,000 182 & each invests $10,000. Fine all looks legit to me. But down the road the club decides to increase their revenue & find people wanting to...

    Engine failure at night

At night, set up best glide, when you get 100' off the ground turn on your landing light. If you don't like what you see...shut off your landing light. Seriously, plan your route as close to airports as you can. Dark places might be you best option. Roads are lined with power lines &...

    ResMed App

I just pull the memory card out of my machine, take it to a local CPAP provider & they generate a report. I've been doing so for many years.

    Watches In the Cockpit (photos)

My parents presented this Seiko to me when I was 18 years old. I obtained my Commercial Certificate & CFI that year. The watch means a lot to me. I had it rebuilt a few years ago & now wear it on special occasions. The rest of the time wear my Apple watch which I love.

    Annual done on my 182

I've owned my 182A model for 5.5 years. The first two annuals I had done at a close local shop that's know for being expensive but meticulous. Yeah, they were expensive annuals averaging $5,000. Since I went into semi-retirement & are watching my pennies a bit closer I had the last two...

    Aircraft rental checkou

I recently checked out a pilot in our Grumman Traveler. He flies freight in a Beech 1900 & has a lot of dual time given. We spent 30 minutes reviewing the quirks of the Traveler & I explained how it differed from a 172 since this pilot instructed in them. We went out & did some slow flight &...

Airplane prices really have gone insane

I've got several of my students looking for an airplane. All of the airplane ads they have had me review leave me stunned at the asking prices of good clean airplanes. I've been flying for many decades & I've seen the markets go up & down. I can not remember a time in the past where the...

    Excited for discovery flight tomorrow

Don't get discouraged if you feel overwhelmed...normal feeling. I do lot's of discovery flights. I let the customer fly the airplane as much as possible. Just enjoy.

    Extremely minor aviation pet peeves...

When people say they have their "privates" when referring to their pilot certificate. The status of their genitalia is of no concern of mine. Also, the multitude of posts complaining about how pilots operate in an uncontrolled airport traffic pattern. I've been flying 49 years & it's always...

    Ground Effect Feeling

Forward stick would have stopped that circus. Too often pilots are afraid of forward stick fearing they'll hit the prop. Biplanes produce a lot of lift.

    PIREPs KEKS (Big Sky, MT)?

In the mid-70's I learned to fly in Livingston when I was a teenager at Yellowstone Air Service. I believe they're still in business. I used to fly down Paradise Valley when I practiced my maneuvers. Never when the winds were strong. I actually did a solo X-C as a student to West...

    Redbird Flight Simulator

I might be old school but on the subject of a good Private Pilot study course you don't have to spend any money. The FAA has all the study material absolutely free. It might not be fancy but it works. There are plenty of free practice test on line after you study & when you've done well on...
