I always encourage my students to fly with other CFI's if the opportunity arrises. I tell them that will give them the chance just to see how crappy of an instructor I really am! Fortunately, no student has reported back to me that this was the case. 47 years as a CFI & still at it.

My how things have changed over the years. The CFI that I hired for most of my certificates & ratings in the 70s was a chain smoker. One after another. I remember during instrument training his smoke would linger under my hood. I probably could have logged actual!

You have to be an EAA member & pass their Youth Protection background check. Otherwise no minimum pilot requirements other than at least a Private Pilot & be current. If you're proficient too that's a real plus. It's really a lot of fun & helps introduce youth to aviation.

I'd recommend two podcasts. AviationNewsTalk & Opposing Bases. I listen to both every week as I drive to the airport to Instruct.

You are right CFI's are not on the same level as airline pilots. I still treat airline pilots with respect though.
